Let me interrupt this snackgasm for a short Engrish story:

Anecdote #1.

Last week I am at a client site who coincidentally has not one, but two large flatbread manufacturing lines bound for Poland in final assembly. EU guidelines require that all warning labels that are not clear picto-icons be in the target country's primary language. Having been bit by translating issues in the past, the sales rep for line #1 had cleverly negotiated with the customer to provide translating services for all the necessary labels. When I asked if they were going to leverage the translations from line #1 into the line #2 labels, I got this blank stare (with an AHA moment deep behind the eyes). Of course, they would have to do some basic checking, he explains, to make sure there were no company-names references imbedded (which could be quite embarrassing).

And they were DEFINITELY not going to use any "free online" translating programs to check this. After which he relates...

Anecdote #2.

One of the company's first entries into the foreign marketplace was a line destined for the Netherlands. Nevermind that fact that everyone in the Netherlands speaks English in addition to Dutch, and nevermind that the line was probably going to be run by immigrants from the Baltic states (and who speak neither Dutch nor English). The labels HAD to be in Dutch as well as English. "Lets just use an online translator" they said.

Instructions on how and where to place the dough balls resulted in literal Dutch labels advising the same action for the "dough testicles".

Boy did I find some unfamiliar smilies yet I made them!

In a bizarre bit of synchronicity, TODAY I was looking through some old word processing documents and came across the write-up I did for the Marine Corps museum, detailing the repairs I did on that A-100.

At least I was belted in for safety.

Call me jaded, but that is exactly the sort of service that resulted in the "dough testicles" sticker.

And Dutch people rolling on the floor in laughter...

Mr. dedaJ, that would have been epically silly indeed to see thier reaction.

PS. Was the Pillsbury doughboy consulted about his....ummm...region being used in the signage?

Just finished watching the redo of Total Recall - wow, was that the worst example of taking a mediocre action script and attempting to shoehorn it into a known name for money. Glad it bombed at the box office!

*SPOILERS!!!*

If it wasn't related to the original and they'd stood it on its own it would have been just ok but the unnecessary links to the Arnie classic were just silly. No Mars or aliens at all, all on Earth where they way over-showed that Earth was crowded - we get it. Why was the 3-tata'd girl in it - there were no mutants - oh yeah, so they could show her to the press before the movie release. The wife character was unbelievable as a baddie, just annoying. And love that he can MMA an entire squad of 20 elite soldiers but one old guy is a struggle

I started watching the movie on cable the other week, it lasted all of a few/10 minutes.

Okay, I know I'm an amateur compared to some on here but I thought my 5,000th post should be something special and in a thread that will be around so here it is.

I was at Walmart the other day and they finally have a decent Tastykake display so I had to take a pic with my phone.

Woo Hoo!!!!
