Possession of an alligator?
Exactly how does that law get on the books?
Who was stupid enough to cause such a law to be written.

All sorts of animal possession laws on the books, some silly some practical. Since the average person isn't prepared to care for an adult alligator (people buy them little because they are cute - then what), I think its a good idea to at least need a permit to care for one. Florida has to keep an eye on all sorts of things - once they get released they can take over like Oscars, Plecos, Capybaras etc.


I can't understand how someone could just abandon animals like that though.

My buddy at work had an alligator named Albert. He had to give it to a sanctuary when it got to be about 6 feet long. It lived in a kiddie pool in the back of his trailer.

Obviously the owner never watched the important documentary
ALLIGATOR. It documents a baby gator bought on vacation in FL but wound up being flushed by a well intentioned parents.
And yes I know WHY there are laws like that but it just amazes me that there HAS to be laws like that. Does anyone think they should have a mountain lion as a free range pet? Somewhere there probably is someone. BUT, they should NOT have one.
