I drove by the Stanley Hotel in Estees, that was the inspiration for the story but the outside image of the "Overlook" hotel is actually a place in Oregon.

Rememebered about the book being from the place in Colorado, but the movie used a different location (Couldn't remember where off hand)

But you got the jist of it at least.

I left myself all afternoon to get back to Denver airport for my flight - many extra hours. What happens? Hazmat spill on the highway I70! Road closed all day. When you are in Vail and need to bypass the highway, you have to take a detour that leads you 2 to 3 hours out of the way - driving around a Rocky Mountain or two takes a lot of time!

After changing my flight from 5:35PM to 7:33PM for $104 I drove my rental Mustang Convert like Parnelli Jones to get back to the airport in time.

If I flew out the two flights the next day it would have cost me $1000 or $900.
