I look at them as unique pieces that I can kinda spend the money on. I so admire guys who restore these things, its true dedication.

To me when I handle one regardless of German or US its a feeling of history.

Here's an Aussie piece I bought and had sent to Oz's friend for shipment stateside creating more than a few questions.

NOS smoke projector for an Australian tank - I don't recall at the moment exactly which one. I was so happy to find it for what I considered a reasonable price I contacted Jeff and he made his friend

I still thank Jeff to this day for having that piece because it would have cost me hundreds to get it here otherwise which I couldn't afford.

Picture litlle smoke projectiles in each tube on the turret of a tank - launch them when you need a screen.

Ebay is my only source in the past but its become out of my price range in recent times.

I consider myself lucky to have scrounged some cool stuff in the past. I buy little bits that I can. As a student of history (my college degree) just holding a piece sends my mind hurling.

I have cool things like an NOS US M48 tank steering wheel/column - is it a big deal overall? No - but to me it is.

Tiger links pop up but it would cost me over $700 to buy one and get it shipped here. Trust me I've toiled over it but I don't make a lot of money and what I make I spent on traveling so I haven't bought one....

yet....

well....those WWII artifacts have an awful lot of history. i collect old stuff, but it isn't usually military in origin. except if i could afford it i would buy a 1944 dodge powerwagon ambulance.

I buy what I can afford.

The whole cool Aussie thing was only a possibility for me thanks to Oz. The cost from the seller was right but if I'd had to factor in the shipping from northwest Australia directly to here forget it.

I think Oz got a kick out of this freaky box labeled "Tank Part" arriving and sitting in his buddy's place mysteriously for a while.

pic of said M3?

i am kind of a geek...i have an antique mixer collection, a 1949 stove, 1954 refrigerator, 1956 (?) metal kitchen - enamel cabinets, sink, etc., 1968 microwave (the second personal model ever introduced), a lot of art deco light fixtures, and of course my clocks.

they aren't as cool as tank tracks though...i might need to start a new collection.

You should let everyone in this thread decide a time to set one of them.
