1969 Super Bee automatic trans,at wide open throttle in first gear it feels like something dragging, like the brake is on.When it shifts second gear it launches like it should and everything is fine.Could this be a band adjustment,or a band is not releasing properly? Any easy way to check this out? The trans has about 5000 miles on it.Please help!!

No replies? Should this be in the Race section?

is this stock throttle pressure control linkage or a manual valve body?

if its stock linkage it could be adjusted to far back maybe??

and is this you shifting it manualy or auto shift by it self?

Stock control linkage,it's when I shift manually I guess I don't know if it does it if I let it shift on it's own.The linkage is adjusted the same as when it was put together 8 years ago.

It started doing this at the end of last season,it only seems to do it in first gear.I'm not a trans guy I was thinking a band isn't releasing quickly enough or something along those lines?

Band isn't releasing ? .. my thoughts also. But it should be doing this in 3rd gear also.

Some years ago ...I remember doing a trans that the lining of the band separated and jammed-up on the drum.

Would agree, sounds like the rear band is not releasing. Could the rear piston be stuck in the bore?

I'll drive it tonite or tomorrow and check to see if it does it in third gear.I don't think it does.I drove it about two weeks ago,it didn't act this way then, kinda weird it does it when it wants to.

In 1st gear the rear band being applied or dragging would not cause this problem , if he were to put the trans in manual low the rear band is APPLIED.

second gear rear clutch still applied , front band grabs the front drum , if the rear band was not releasing he would not have a clean shift and the car taking off as it normally would .

First is the rear clutch applied , the front band is released and the front clutch is released , the only things I would think that would cause this is if something was jamming up the front drum ???

PULL the pan and see if the band-apply lever is operating.
