Tried a little bracket racing last weekend with our C-body, 67 Plymouth VIP. Got one pretty good qualification run. 8.04/174 mph. Still felt like I could use a little more power in the launch even though the 60 ft was a new record too, 1.279. Then in the first round of eliminations it felt that the car left pretty well, but after 330 ft it started to slow down. The 60 ft was 1.246 and at 330 ft it was 0.055 ahead of the 8.04 ET. In half way it was still .03 sec ahead, but the speed was already 5 mph less and the final ET was 8.12 at 164 mph. I won the first round, but a pushrod broke and didn't have any spares with me, so had to quit. The car pulled right pretty hard in the first gear, it had almost 1/2 turn of preload already, so have to perhaps figure out something else to fix that. Here is a pic series of the eliminator launch:

Congrats

You guys have one of the baddest rides I have ever seen. Talk about the "cool" factor.

Your push rod, is it all burnt and gauled looking? If it is, it could be lack of oil. Post a pic of it....And by the way, your car, and how fast it is is unreal!

In those pics the car is obviously carrying the left front wheel higher and further than the right wheel.

To have that car on the verge of running 7's is amazing. Do you ever get tired of the jaw dropping reaction people have? I know I wouldn't!

No, it's not burnt at all, the cup just broke. Iäm starting to believe after having tremendous problems with the T&D's and every now and then some problems with the ersons too, we should try bigger seat pressures better contorolling the valvetrain. We measured the springs with good equipment when putting the heads together and had 275 lbs of seat pressure, but now with the moroso tester it was only around 180-200 The cam card wants 280. Last time we "calibrated2 the moroso tool it showed some 40 lbs less than real, but we now have different rockers and that may change the readings somewhat? Anyway, the pressures were all pretty even, so I thought it was ok.

Nice going Jyrki!
Too bad about the mishap. I wonder when you'll dive into the 7s with the car.

We only intend to run once more this summer. In our national series We've got three races left, but we have to move our garage and since the next two races are in the north we haven't got time to go there. Other than national level races here are more or less worthless to us since the circimstances are way less than stellar. They just wear and taer the car. We are also highly considering participating in Swedish Power Street Finals in early august. They've got too classes, "street" and "heavy" and VIP should fit well in to the heavy class as far as I understood the rules. Have to get a confirmation to that first, don't want to tow some 1000 miles there just to get told that you can't drive here. Anyway, that's a 1/8 mile race in Malmö next to the Danish border.

i am just amazed that this thread hasn't gotten more hits and responses man, that vip has got to be one of the more unique cars around. to be that big and that heavy, and still run like that is just awesome. can you tell about the motor and weight of the car? spray?

I agree. I remember when a certain other car was in the quest for the 7's. We read about that for what seemed like years and got a gazillions of hits on his posts. Good for him, he got it, but oh my the drama we endured along the way.... Anyhow, its nothing short of incredible that a big C body can be knocking on the door of the 7's (with nothing very fancy. Good stuff don't get me wrong, just nothing exotic). Then take into consideration the fact that he is not in the states, but most everything he needs IS in the states. Pretty awesome really.

Actually never realized that until now, Eddies quest for the 7 second ET was quite a drama and I followed that closely, and now we're in the same position! with a little less drama though, I guess.

You need to bring that beast to monster mopar! I know its a long ways, but it would be cool to see it. Good luck with your quest for the 7s.

And a car two sizes larger! Really great work Jyrki.

that has to be the understatement of the decade. looks like a pretty nice facility the pics were shot at. i can't imagine what you guys go through to run a car like that out of the states. it's tough enough when we have all the parts pretty much readily available, that thing is rolling along pretty good.

Real nice pass! What do you have for carburation? Looks killer with an almost stock hood!

Well we now know it CAN go 7's...just have to wait for the right conditions to get the time slip.

Thanks for the encouraging words!

The engine is a twin turbo EFI set up, it's with a Wilson elbow on an Indy single plane intake the throttlebody facing front. It's a little higher than with a carb, but my intention is to at some point build my own intake that will have a bigger plenum and be way lower so that we'll be able to use a flat hood. Here is a pic of the engine bay:
