i believe if you dont go to a 572 ci motor, your going to come up short. we are talking about a street car, you need ci and compression to be in the 9's in the summer.
a set of custom headers cost me $1000.00 plus coating. indys 572-13 heads cnc ported will be another good option for you. you'll be in the 9's for sure all year long. it doesnt cost anymore to go to a 572 ci motor these days, why go small.

I forgot to mention..... I wanna run in the 9's ALL day long on motor and any heat is my goal meaning I dont want a 10.2 car and in october run a 9.90.... hope this helps..... I also have been thinking about a B1 setup... just trying to find the simplest setup to stuff into an A body car...
I have seen some of your b1 pics and some of you have braided lines in front of the heads going down into the block or something...
Those are for oil drainback into the pan. The ports are so big on B1s that oil passages could'nt be made big enough..so thats why they use the lines. Just drill and tap and run a #8 line into the pan front and back of each head. As far as fitting into an A body check with Al Alguire as he did that with his Valiant. On my car, the headers are custom under chassis but i have pinto rack and coil overs etc..but I think Als is in the stock location.

If money is no object why not a 572 aluminum block HEMI or wedge? My little 501 would run nines in the heat in a Duster. But a well built 572 would give you mid to low 9's with ease.
'33 Plymouth 5 Window Coupe Blown Aluminum HEMI w/bolt ons (under construction)

'71 Plymouth Duster 360 W/EFI (Wife's Ride)

you can buy my engine
or since you dont like to tune, you could build a 572 w/ KB block with B1 PSO heads. that should get you in the 9s in the rain
Ray I know you had a lot of experience last year with Eddie and the predators on drag week, what are the draw backs of the predators? A friend of mine is building a super gas roadster and wants to run 160 to 165 mph, are they a good head for big inch motors over 540?
from what i have seen and this maybe a problem again but the amount of water flow thru the heads does not seem to good. for a race motor, i think they are great but the head didnt have any water holes between the cylinders like a conventional wedge head. i believe Eddie has made some mods to the heads but i still think it may be a problem.
the T&D rockers are great to work with. the heads themselves look like very good castings. nice long valves. i love the heads but i'm a street car guy and untill Miller shows me that they truely can be drivin on the street i wouldnt try it. Eddie's engine ran around 150* with the -1 heads and the predator engine was steady building heat. the verdict is still out.
you can stick a water hose in one end of the head and water will flow out nice but i just think its a water volume problem.

BUILD A 588 CI 11.O PUMP GAS MOTOR WITH 572-13's and a indy single 4 bbl or a crossram like mine and be in the mid to upper 9's in the heat all day long and low maintenence. it wont cost any more than a 500-540. just use good rocker gear like t & d's. my engine builder can build you a 572 ci indy motor pump gas for around $14,000 with a good block.brand new.

Wedgie, if you have the dough, i would be building a very mild whatever with a procharger. you need a good block though but that is where its at.
