We've recently changed over to stiff sidewalls. Only did 3 passes before hurting the motor but I can tell the car did not like 11.5 psi in them (on my gauge). Car squirmed around a lot from the startline. We started @ 12.5 and went down. Next time out we'll start there and go up, tyre was wadding pretty bad in hindsight. Got a 1.41 60ft but track wasn't there, so everyone was saying, so it sorta equalled the non stiff wall slicks given the conditions. I think the normal slicks are a bit more forgiving when it comes to pressure.
We still run ours with tubes too, is this right?

I run Tubes in ours they are recommended by the manufacturer.
sounds like you need more air pressure.
does your rim width match the tire width?

This is a pic of a 9.81 @ 138, 1.41 60ft run. Tyres are @ 12.0 psi. Rim is 10 inch.

You should always run as much air pressure as you can
without spinning.... gives you better MPH

Bye far the most popular tire on the east coast 12.5 psi.Brian one day try the MT pro radial and become one of the men that all smile at how smooth it feels and the tenth they all pick up

I`ve got those on my car now and although I havn`t hit the track or street raced yet, they sure try to hook on the street rollin along and sabbin it in second which is better than the QTP`s. I know that doesn`t help but they are sticky AND stable driving around on the street........

If all possible can you guys give the spec.(60',et.,tire pre.)
The reason I'm asking is my car has been as fast as 140.93 mph with a best et. of 9.56,with a 1.38 60'(with the stiff sidewall tire) looking at Wallace cal. that mph. should be 9.40's it has been a best of 1.28(but that was with a w-tire@9.5lbs)it seems to be dropping off at the 330' on .............Thaxs fellas

If it is dropping off from the 330' on I would look somewhere other than the tires.

I put 10,5 Hoosier stiff walls on my Dakota this year. It hates them, nothing I can do will make them work. Truck weighs 3400 with me in it, but 500 lbs heavier on the nose than the rear.

I've battled them for the last weekend, they are coming off tomorrow in favor of the regular side wall Hoosiers. My 60' is down, my ET is down but I sure love the way they launch, I just can't make a full pass on them, the rear end starts to skate around going down the track, but our track has some serious issues too.

... could be over reving the engine on the
top end.. if you put on a taller tire might do it or
a gear change... this is just a guess if you are over
reving... I know I am a little.. I run a best 60' of
1.19 but the normal is a 1.21 and 8.96 at 152 best but
normal is 9.01 at 150... I know my cam is way short
on lift

12.5-13.5 for me with the 3062W, shares the same sidewall. No more radials on yours?

We normally run 315 radials, but when we DO run slicks, we run the tire the OP is asking about. Our car race ready is about 2800lbs on slicks. They are mounted on beadlocked 12" wheels and we DO run tubes. We normally run them at 12-13 psi at that weight. A heavier car will need more or it will absolutely CRUSH the sidewall at the hit

Remember....MORE air, puts MORE rubber on the ground because it flattens the tire out and stiffens up the sidewall. Low air, lets the tire "cup" in the middle and has less rubber on the ground.

We have been 1.09 in 60ft on this tire and 4.30s in the 1/8th at 173+

A high hp car that hooks hard and crushes the sidewall will beat the sidewalls out in short order. Our slicks are DONE for us in 12 passes, but would still be fine for lower hp stuff.

How many runs do you get out of a radial?

Until they are slick and I just feel like we need new ones........LOL!!! Ones on the car now probably have 40 or 50 licks. Even on the radials, we usually beat the sidewall out before the tread is done. We are light on burnouts. Killing the tire on the burnout does you NO GOOD. With the car just sitting there, slicks or radials and I can see lines in the sidewall where they have been wrinkling......off they come.
