I had the same problem once. Secondaries on carb didn't open, and car lost 1.2 seconds in quarter.

Do the EZ stuff first. Make sure the brakes are not dragging. Wierd gremlins breed in the off season.

so i'll ask a really stupid question. Did you check to make sure you are getting WOT with the pedal to the floor?

NOT A STUPID QUESTION! Happend to me, engine builder found it.

This is embarassing but we've smoked the tranny three times in a car before we finally figured out that the cooler was plugged. It behaved like you're describing. The motor sounded great and pulled clean; it just took forever to reach shift points and ran about a second slower than it should have. On the jackstands prior to running it would shift fine. A few seconds after launch it would fill the car with burnt clutch smell. However the fluid always smelled and looked fine.

Just a thought.

How old are your slicks? Maybe time for new ones.

I believe we found the problem. Leak down showed that #5 cyl had 80% past the intake valve. Also that the valve springs where way down for his set up.So I guess heads come off.
