A while back we had a good discussion going on Medicare that was quite informative. On February 2nd My wife had to be at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for a kidney transplant. This was wonderful news as she has been on the waiting list for 6 years! They got started around 10:00 am and she was back in her room recovering by 2:00 pm. My wife was very groggy but still opened her eyes to watch the Iowa women's basketball team beat USC! That was right across the road from the hospital in front of filled to capacity arena. It was also the day Iowa retired Caitlin Clark's number. Lots of excitement at the hospital that day! My wife got to come home on Thursday. She can't do much but she feels like a new person! We do have Medicare and a supplemental insurance. We were told that between her insurance and Medicare it should cover everything 100%. The main thing is that my wife can resume a normal life soon. wave

Are you concerned that if the test fails Medicare will repossess the kidney? eek
Sounds to me like everything is as good as it can get, test or not. thumbs

Hope she heals up well Ted!
I went on Medicare about 9 months ago. Other than some silly hoops I had yo jump through because of getting "retired" by my job, it's been great.

Good to hear Ted! I have been on Medicare for almost 2 years now, it has been awesome! I've even gotten dental issues cleared up that have been bugging me for 10 years! They are kind of a pain in the butt this time of year wanting you to go in for the yearly checkup and also an in-home, but that's ok. Also did a sleep study I have been putting off for 15 years, I go on CPAP next week... nervous

That's great. Hope your wife continues to heal and prosper. You should be fine on costs. Are you on medicare with supplemental policies, or medicare advantage ? Medicare advantage I know nothing about. Medicare with supplemental polices paid my 6 figure back surgery 100%. Prescription drug coverage has been an absolute cluster.......

glad to hear the good news Ted ! boogie up
being a medicare recipient for years now, the secret [if one wants to call lit such], is picking the right supplement plan.
you need to definitely tailor that plan to your needs you have now, and in the future. this needs done yearly, as plans [usually] do not carry over unless you desire them to.
my wife and i have a meeting with our insurance lady every year when the enrollment period is open to review the past years activity, as well as our current health status, and possible needs looking forward to the coming year.
not having quite the situation you have just gone through, i have had several "stays at the luxurious resort on the hill" over the years, [including a recent 12 day "relaxation"] and medicare and my supplement paid 100%.
you will get many "this is not a bill" statements, and while there is a section that states "you may be responsible for these charges" [or similar language], i have yet to be billed for them.
here's hoping your wife a speedy recovery !

Praying for a full recovery. . As to supplemental insurance plans, I am a huge fan of CIGNA if anyone is shopping.

my wife had CIGNA until this year's plan evaluation. it was a very good company.
unfortunately, her needs changed, and CIGNA did not offer several things she needs going forward.
that's why it is important to review every year, as your needs may change, while your policy may not keep up.

Thanks everyone for the kind wishes! She is doing very well this morning! Eric...I hope you make a full and complete recovery! We have an excellent insurance agent that specializes in Medicare at our agency. She is very good at picking out the plans that fit our needs the best! My daughter is a pharmacy tech at a large hospital and has helped find my wife prescription meds from other hospitals and pharmacies cheaper than our family pharmacy that we have been with for years. It is an emotional thing to go thru for sure. You know it is going to happen and you jump everytime the phone rings! Anyone here that is ill you know we are pulling for ya! And Eric...Out at the farm I think I have an NOS bolt on battery terminal end...Yours for your collection!! laugh2 Thanks! wave
