Hi all, I have this weird problem with my Bee's back up lights, I rebuilt the 833 last year with a super complete kit.... all gears and syncro's, bushings and bearings, forks and complete gasket and "o" ring kit even a new reverse light switch, so yeah new from A-Z. Here's my problem when I shift into reverse the dash reverse light indicator and the back up lights don't come on. I jumped the connector at the switch... all lights come on. I removed the reverse light from the trans. and bench tested it and it works. I put the switch back in the trans. shift into reverse (nothing) come out of reverse and then slam back into reverse, (lights come on). I climb under the car and check if its going all the way into reverse and it is, so bottom line is the lights only come on if I ram it into reverse..... at this point I'm trying to locate my original back-up light switch to see if that makes A differance. Has anyone else encountered this problem ? Any idea's would greatly help.

Later, BUZZ

Does the new switch have a washer on it?

Certainly a possibility.

OP, compare the new and old switches. Sounds like the new one has too short a plunger.

I found my original switch, no washer on it just the rubber 'o' ring on the end of the threaded part. Both the original and replacement switches are identical in size and reach.

Might be plunger depth / contact point.
Measure across the leads and see if the aftermarket one needs to be pushed further compared to stock.

Remove the shifter rod from the trans Reverse lever and shift the lever by hand using a large adjustable end wrench. If over-traveling the lever brings on the lights, the reverse interlock might be the problem...check your FSM for more info.

A couple of points..
The switches now sold are from off-shore, and of varying quality.
If possible try and source a Mopar OE one.
I have a collection of (5) different A-833 back-up light switches,
some work fine others are questionable. I also note that some
require a slightly longer throw or push to activate..
When I had the same problem with the back-up light circuit in my 70 RR,
I took out my multi-meter and did some continuity tests noting the amount of travel required
and ended up installling the one that had the shortest travel..

Just my $0.02... wink
