Found a decent 12v w/5sp, dually with 200k and no rust. Owner says stock engine, last 15k has new rad, front-end rebuilt etc. It has a 5" pipe. Had a 04 dully a dozen years ago and always wanted another.
I don't know much about this gen of trucks other than they are easy to modify since it is a mechanical diesel. What is a fair price? I see pricing all over the map

With the limited information IMO $20,000 and above with today's prices.

That era truck:
The dash needs to be replaced if it hasn't already been. They're available....(you can youtube videos on doing it).
Seat foam and original style covers are available ebay, and they're very reasonable.
The front end might need to be rebuilt (to include upper ball joints) with 200K miles.

As for price, I agree with the above, not over 20K.

So 14k would be a good deal? If everything checks out

If that truck checks all your boxes, I’d say $14k is a good price

I think so too. Get as much info on the maintenance as you can. Don't forget to ask about whether the "killer dowel pin" (KDP) issue has been dealt with.
Read up on it if you're not familiar.
But yeah, for a good truck, I don't think you'll find anything comparable for much less.

I would sure want to know what's under the flat black...
Get a good look at the underside, door bottoms - you know the drill.

Those started going nuts price-wise in the PNW 10 years ago among the hardcore Diesel guys.

Kind of looks like it.
This is more of a want than a need. I do tow a bit but nothing heavy typically maybe a skid steer.
I do like the mechanical diesel part even though I didn't have any expensive issues with my 04.

Are you driiving there yet ??? 12 and 5 speed is the holy grail for many in that era.

I have a lot of experience with the 2nd gen 24v but when I was looking for my current truck I shied away from the 12v because I need to turn it up to the performance level it should be and 12v becomes a little too smokey for me.

14k in your area, if it really is not crusty underneath, is a good price.

How about this one? I don't much care about the extra room of a quad cab... https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/8567893453316420/?

I like it. I prefer reg cab trucks also. I grew up a bit west of there.
Only bad is auto tranny and 12+ hours away.
I will check out the one 30 min from me this week. See how custy it is. We are borderline as far as rusty vehicles.
I bought a 24 year old truck last year from NoVa that was really clean.

The only thing I don't like is the 160 HP and 400 ft lbs of torque, I had a 93 and it needed more for sure. The 5-speed got 175 hp and 420 ft lbs but they can be turned up easily... work

That was me 3 years ago , I bought a 98.5 2500 2wd out of Paris, Arkansas almost 3 yrs ago with 172k on it , exceptionally clean still had the original shocks and exh on it. I've put about 50k on it so far, getting ready to turn it up to 500HP at the rear wheels like my last one.

iagree They obviously have potential to be turned up a lot, but they are absolute turds when stock. You'll wish you had your '04 back.
