Hello Everybody. A mutual friend told me about this posting tonight....
I am still here, just dont get on this site everyday or as often as I would like.
I still own my petty blue original demon 340 gss paxton that has the sunroof and the louvers both. The other one is the car you are refering too and I sold it to Bill Sefton indirectly also.....
Yes , they where added by Mr. Norm Krause at the dealership.
Mr. Norm has also autographed the dash of my TB3 petty/corp super blue demon gss back in 1997. before I went to iraq. He said her remembered the car when it was still his on the floor and said that he sold several of these back then....
It appraised back then for 67,200.00 dollars in value back then.
It is currently going thru it's very first ever restoration now in orlando.
I also Have another set of the louvers that I keep as a spare and sometimes put them on one of my demon 340's that's now a tubbed and narrowed supercharged and nitroused big block stroker. (I'll post a pic of it here)
THE LOUVERS>>>>> They where made by the american sunshade company, a sister company associated by the same ownership as the american sunroof company that did all the crank back sunroof's for the mopars and others back in the day. (chevy nova and also the ford cougar xr7)
They have gone out of business as it become easier for the big three to do their own cars that had sunroofs and convertibles themselves or in small batches at a time on the assembly line themselves or using another vendor..
They where offered only for the Dusters and Demons and Dart Sports for only 1 year in 1972.
They where not offered for the darts and scamps, etc.
Only the B and E body ones where offered besides the "A" fastbacks as they called them.
The A body ones attatch under the chrome trim for the window with a locking tab and spring to keep them from vibrating.
They learned their lesson on the other B and E body one's, Because they required drilling holes in the body.
Chrylser offered them as dealer installed accesory at only limited very high volume dealerships with a brochure at purchase.
I have a friend in Pueblo, Colorado that has one of these brouchures...
Due to lack of responce they where discontinued. The bottom louver appears to be missing, But this is not true due to the opening of the trunk lid on these models is so close to the glass...
Mr Norm was in the business of selling cars and offered to do alot of things to sell them.
He modified them and sold them as new under warranty and then the goverment made it illegal to due this again until the early 90's when they finally started letting dealerships sell cars and trucks without the mandantory radio or wheels they come with standard. Now a days you can get anything you want as long as you can pay for it!
I sold one of my dodge demons 340 GSS's to an auto broker , whom in turn sold the car to Bill Sefton and it was featured in MCG and other's.
I at that exact time ,already owned two other documented "Mr. Norm" Demon 340 GSS's and did not have the funds to restore/ store a third car along with all my other mopars, and or to let it just set.
It needed alot of work as it was to restore it so I sold it, and thats how he got it.
The a few years back I decided I was stupid for selling that one also and set out to find another one. Thats when I found the red one in Skokie, Il.
So, Now I own three documented true demon 340 gss's out of 6 original Demon 340's that I currently own in my collection. And a total of 8 demon's total ( also got one thats a 6cyl just because it has a perfect headliner, and a 318 car too because it is rust free.)
My 71' GSS 340 six pack, 4 speed, GK6 with black stripes, Black deluxe bucket interior, (owned this one for 20 +years now !)
As well as two 1972 Demon 340 GSS paxtons that are in my collection.
The One 1972 is the red with white stripes one that I posted pics of a while back on this site after I got it home.
It has houndstooth interior, automatic and 3.55 with harldy any comfort items at all, (Just bought it three years ago out of skokie,Il) It has rust in places and is unrestored and untouched. even the tires are original and rotted.
I have been using it as a reference for the restoration of the petty blue one.
And the 1972 petty blue one with factory sunroof (M52 code) black stripes and hood tach and louvers and spoiler and paxton, 3.91 and 4 speed with console. All are factory original options original on this car. Including deluxe interior, am/fm with cassette on the floor and chrome remote racing mirrors and a unique chrome trim that was rumored to only be a 1971 option that goes along the windows on both sides.
I have been told that it is the only 1972 GSS that was ever built new like this with these options and is a true GSS documented on the build sheet and invoices and thru also Mr Norm Krause himself, and that only a few got sold with the paxton and a 4 speed, as the automatic was better suited for use with the paxton due to all the shifting. I get asked about the hood tach and the louvers all the time when I drive it.
After driving the red one for awhile before I stored it I have to agree it works better with the 727...But my blue one is much quicker and faster.
The louvers are extremely rare and seldom seen.
I recently helped an friend who is restoring a set of the louvers that where sold on ebay a while back by letting him photograpgh mine so that he could fabricate exact mounting tabs and brackets using mine as a model to work from for Bill Sefton's car so that it is complete.
He does alot of work for Bill.
I have also had them down to Blue Moon Motorsprts in Orlando where they where seen at. ( The place where all the new Mr Norms GSS Hemi Darts are being built/ and under Norms and Al's guidence.
Mr Norms is available if you want to know more or confirm this please contact him in a friendly manner and he is available here on Moparts.com and thru his own email and website.
I have owned the petty blue one for over thirty years now!!!!
It is also not only a GSS 340 demon, It is also a special order... And a dealer demo model per the fender tag and build sheet. (Y13 and Y39 on the fender tag)
All of my cars are available to be seen by appointment only in Orange City and Deland, Florida.
I seldom post pictures as I always get a swarm of people trying to hassle me into selling it afterwards.
Frankly I want to still enjoy doing this as a hobbie, Not as a job.
