So one thing nobody asked was when the engines were painted at the engine plant did they have standard steel valve covers and bolts on them then changed out for the chrome covers afterwards?
I don't know. Looking at the picture of your Dart it looks like the lower front fastener is a bolt rather than a stud and a nut. I'm not even going to go down that rabbit hole. I have enough trouble keeping Dave straight!
Yes, all valve cover fasteners are bolts, none were a stud and nut when I bought the car in 1978...
That's interesting , I'll have to look at the heads from my dart , I took them off and bagged them as they were. I can't remember now if it had studs or not , maybe the chrome valve cover called out for all chrome plated bolts because they didn't have chrome studs and nuts ? I magine if they were just black phosphate that they would be the combination of bolts and studs ???
I won't go into that orange bolt head holding the black painted alt. bracket , that one shouldn't be engine color
