Charging system quit on my Ramcharger the other day. Pretty sure it's the alternator but want to confirm.

If I put battery power to one field terminal and ground the other, it should go full charge right?

turn key to run, alternator pulley should magnetize with small screwdriver touching it, means alternator is ok

all parts are sold as is, all parts are considered used no warranties or returns
paypal/check/money order, shipping is from zip 02891, buyer pays paypal fees 24% IRS 1099A plus 3% of part price, check/money order preferred
site is not monitored 24/7 there might be a delay in response

Not quite.

Doesn't prove the diodes are good. All it proves is that the input side appears to be working.

It's dead. Already swapped and back to charging.

3 month old alternator and 44 year old everything else.

They just don't build things the way they used to.

This was my question from the first post, what year? 1980 Were they still amp gauge or did they have a shunt? Both were problematic. That's why they stopped using them and have a volt gauge now.

It's an 80 and the ammeter has been bypassed for years. Old style smoke machine.

Been burned by the "quality " of aftermarket parts too many times over the years. If I have good functional OEM stuff I won't change it.

See the current situation for example.

3 months?

You must have bought the premium brand i only got 2-1/2 weeks on my last lifetime warranty alternator.

I would call the stuff they sell today crap but crap is better than this stuff.

Glad its fixed. up

I have lifetime warranty replaced brake pads, alternators, and other stuff multiple times.

There seems to be no limit but sometimes stuff is no longer available or doesn't show up in their system which is a hassle.

Being a 80 it should be a shunted system, so bypass or not the amm will make nothing, since these ammeters are a remote signal readers between both sides of the shunt path, not like older full load ammeters. At least on passenger cars. I guess by this year trucks should be the same.

The 1st 2 were junk right out of the box. Didn't even install them. One sounded like it had sand in the bearings and the other had been dropped.

Negative. 80 was the last year of the full current style ammeter. 81 was a whole new cluster that went to 89 or so. This had the shunt style ammeter. 90 to 93 had a voltmeter. Change over might be 91.
