Just sitting here in our 65 degree living room. Sporting some sweats and a thermal sweatshirt…. We haven’t turned the heat on yet. Usually keep it at 78-80 in the summer. Definitely enjoying the $50ish electric bills over the $300 summer months here on long island oil for heating is expensive... just came off contract at 3.69 a gallon... the company offered me 3.62, and then 3.44... i can get cod oil at 2.45ish, but no contract ... i'm playing russian roulette with a 20+ year old furnace... we keep the heat in the house at 62/63... i like it cool... at nite bedroom at 60, with the window a bit open... in the summer , june, july, aug and sept we average 500bucks a month for ac.... but no heating bill... haha

Here in Minnesota, it's below zero outside but I keep it 71 or 72° in the house, and 70° in the shop. I turn the shop down to 55 when I'm not going to be in there for a while, or 45 if I'm not going to be there for a long time. I don't want to die of pneumonia and leave behind all that money that I could have spent on the heating bill.

my wife likes it about 80, but i just can't stand it that hot ! i like 65. no heat in the shop, and i like working in a t-shirt or very light long sleeve shirt. shop usually stays about 45 degrees unless i have the door[s] open. it's 22 degrees here now, but supposed to warm up into the high 40's, low 50's next week. last week, it was a balmy 18 degrees out when i took the garbage to the curb can without a shirt on. my best buddy saw me and stopped. we shot the bull for about 15-20 minutes with me outside, and him inside his running truck with the heater on full blast, his heated seat and steering wheel on high, and him wearing his snowmobile suit, 15 sweat shirts, heated gloves and shoes, and crabbing about the cold. i was perfectly comfortable without a shirt on, and i'm sure the passing traffic thought i needed committed to the nut house being dressed as i was. [and before you wisea$$es start, yes, i had a pair of blue jeans on. ]

Summertime its 72, winter 70. I'm lucky energy is cheap where I live. In the winter my bill is never over $150 and that will only be January and February. This past summer my highest electric bill was $162.

I'm way past borrowed time, but I refuse to be ripped off by the service guys. It's around $40 and your time to service the furnace. As long as the chimney isn't blowing black or white smoke you're good. Cleanliness is next to Godliness when it comes to combustion chamber maintenance. It's easy.

We keep it 71 here year round. Natural gas forced air. We had to put a new furnace in last winter.

We have an 1800+ sq ft ranch style house built in 1954. It has gas heated, hot water, radiant heat. The house was originally a side by side duplex, so there are two boilers heating and circulating that hot water, one for each 1/2 of the house. One boiler is old, may be an original to the house, the other we replaced when we moved in, 22 years ago. To convert to a one boiler system would require completely redoing the current boiler plumbing, and one much larger boiler. Then the garage has a gas forced air shop heater hanging in one corner. We are feeding 2 boilers and a forced air furnace, plus a gas water heater and a gas stove. The gas bill runs about $160 a month (last years actual gas bills added up and divided by 12).
The boiler radiant heat does not recover well with temp changes, so the house temp stays at 72 through the winter, off in the summer (end of March 31- Oct 1st, give or take). The AC is set at 78 in the summer (end of May - end of Aug, give or take) and off in the winter. The shop heat is set at 58 unless I'm working in it through the winter, then its kicked up to 64. It too is off in the summer.
We have 12 solar panels on our roof. Those solar panels are leased and guaranteed for 20 years (no out of pocket money on my part). We are still connected to the grid because solar panels don't generate much power when they are covered with snow, Between the lease and the connection to the grid, our electric bill is $60 every month, year around. That is 20% lower then our lowest electric bill before the panels, and covers the AC all summer. If the panels don't cover the cost of the electric, the panel company pays us the difference.
We have just installed all new windows (Tuesday this week). The house already feels a lot warmer, (the old windows were bad and the house was drafty) we are hoping it may cut down the gas bill a bit, but just the house feeling warmer is worth the cost.
Now, about that water & sewer bill......

Winter time we keep the house at 70 degrees from the time we get home til the time we go to bed.
50 degrees during the day when we are at work, and 60 at night while we are sleeping
....evil is winning....

68* in the Winter, and 72* in the Summer. I have heat in the basement garage, but never use it. It rarely gets below freezing, but the air compressor is in the upper garage, and that isn't heated. Would draw too much moisture.

Fall/winter around 70-72. Summer a little higher. We have all-electric heat, but use propane as a supplemental source. Works out well for us.

Yesterday it was reading 78 degrees. Highest it's been inside for several days and I had to turn my a/c back on to 75. It was too humid and today is the same. Warm and humid.
Facts are stubborn things.
