For anyone on Medicare pay attention to your chosen plan. There are some changes being slipped in that some may not notice if they are not paying attention. The changes involve "deductibles" the insured has to pay before the insurance pays anything.
These deductibles apply to any health related visit to a doctor or prescriptions. They do vary by plan but can be costly for those on tight budgets frown
I hoping this will stay non political as it is meant to be an informative post beer

Wifey and I are on part A, B, and D Medicare with supplements. The no cost, provide everything "plans" smack too much of HMO's and I've old enough to remember what a fiasco they were.

I have Medicare A & B, $240 deductible.
Best thing is my supplemental Plan G through Mutual of Omaha - $163.35/mo.
Eye surgeries & hip replacement cost me next to nothing, yearly deductible is something like $300 (don't recall exactly at this moment, but it's low).
I pay for meds because I don't take many and it's kind of a wash, coverage cost vs out-of-pocket.

SO much better than when I had Obamacare some years ago and my kidney surgery cost me $20,000.

friday my wife and i are meeting with our insurance lady to go over what is out there for next year that will meet our needs.
what concerns me the most, is the possibility of "pre-existing conditions" being a cost escalator that will be unaffordable for us [and others] to obtain the health care we need.
this greatly concerns me, and i'll leave it at that.

Wow!! I didn't know you had kidney surgery! My wife is on the transplant list at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She got a call two days ago and is on standby meaning that her bags are packed are ready to go! up

Oh yeah, Ted - left one was almost completely blocked - they called it a "staghorn" - several hours' surgery.
Three follow-ups after that for the ultrasound deal.
It was all a pretty big deal.

Yes, the advantage plans can suck with all the co pays and deductibles

And some Doctors have stopped taking some of the plans , but regular medicare not a problem

So A, and B with the gap covered by G and then a D for Rx drugs , not the easiest to figure out

But at least I'm not paying the $40 on everything co pay I did under the affordable frown care act

So far all I have had to pay is the typical $20 copay. Got lots done in the last year I couldn't afford to do before Medicare! up

Been on Medicare plus the supplement for 10 years. Type F, never have paid a dime, no copays. My agent told me five years ago the advantage plan is no good if you're sick a lot, I’ll stick with what I have, I like walking in and out, last hospital bill was $300,000 in may, 0 for me. Now other shoulder then knee in future.

if you're both on Medicare, pre -existing conditions shouldn't come into play. The same for Obamacare.

If I may ask, what does A, B, G and D total a month or year on premiums ?
And what other expenses may total? Dental, optical copays on prescriptions, earing aids etc.

I ask as up to now we have paid ZERO for insurance (175 a month standard fee) and the other expenses have been ) or minimal.
But it does depends on the plan

Previously we were paying ~ 200 a month in additional premiums or 2400 a year

Switching to an ADV plan that had a 4K max out of packet expense we had that covered in 20 months and have saved another 4500 or so since. Again it depends on the plan on selects. beer

I was on Obamacare in 2017 when I had a triple bypass that went sideways. I was in an induced coma for ~ 3 weeks, transferred to specialty facility for ~1.5 weeks. That was followed by 4 weeks of inpatient therapy. Total cost was under 3-4K. The first bill arrived 4 days after the procedure it was over 400K shocked .

Plan F is no longer available unless you're grandfathered in. It was replaced with G beer

one of the main concerns, is finding a drug plan that covers the drugs we need, [formulary] while being able to afford the plan and any co-pays the drugs will cost us. several drugs we take are hugely expensive.
as we are both on medicare, that part doesn't bother us.

An insurance sales friend of mine told me if you never plan to use it go with an Advantage plan. Otherwise, shop for a suitable supplement plan.

When you're about to turn 65, your mailbox is full of people trying to sell you stuff. One caught my eye and I called them. Straight forward, took time to explain the options and plans, not pushy, not trying to sell me the moon. Knew what he was talking about. Name of the firm is Fairsquare Medicare. I got the regular plans along with a drug plan and one that picks up charges the first two won't.

I've had some stuff pop up that needed to be addressed. After a few years with what I signed up for, I'm happy with my decisions.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I’ve got some time, but it never hurts to learn early.
Is it basically the same as shopping for home or car insurance?
Call several agents, ask friends, and decide what’s right?

For some reason I was under the impression there were only 1 or 2 choices?

I have it, my older sister calls it the "Cadillac Plan".

I'm not sick much, so far, but the peace of mind is comforting.

no sir, there are many choices, plans, and several companies all offering multiple plans and that is where they "gitcha".
It can be very confusing especially for an elderly person due to the choices. They are ALMOST as upfront as a used car salesperson. And it is why I put the post up. At a casual glance the existing 2024 policy appears the same as the 2025 policy. But they slipped the deductibles in for health (dr. visits) and prescriptions 🙄🙄.
Those deductibles DO NOT APPLY to the overall policy deductible. End result, Insured gets porked for another x amount (~500 to 1K) and the insurance companies save 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑 😳😲. Who would've thought they'd be so ???

exactly correct.
that is why it is paramount [in my opinion] one has talks with a [or several] very qualified health insurance advisor before locking into any supplementary health care plan.
one needs to find something that is RIGHT for oneself, and not listen to all the noise generated by those plans one sees on tv or social media.

Interesting, why are they doing this. Is it because of the frauds being committed in Medicare every day?

IMO the entire insurance industry is running amok jacking rates as they choose and no one is questioning it or making them justify the increases. Hopefully enough individuals will start asking questions and demanding answers. We are all aware that costs have increased but are they in check with we're being hit with premium wise whistling shruggy
Again I am not wanting this to become political as the intention was to make people aware of the changes that are being "SLIPPED" in. beer

Plan F is no longer available unless you're grandfathered in. It was replaced with G beer

I’ll stay there if I can, I’ll call my agent Monday to ask his advice. The supplement is $194 a month now, RX has went up but I don’t take anything, might drop that.

Locally for me The humana Advantage give back plan was the best deal. They actually only charge 125.00 a month which = 1440. a year saving for the wife and I.
max out of pocket is 4900 I think. lot's of other pluses.
