I'm just finishing up a small project for the new garage. I wanted a trash can that looked like an old oil barrel and this is what I came up with. I'll be honest, the pictures make it look better then it does in person. The drum has some dings and the lid was in rough shape. It is a trash can after all so I didn't want to go crazy with it. I did splurge on a cart so I can move it around when needed. The drum and lid were found separately on Facebook Marketplace. The decal and cart were found on E-bay. up

That looks awesome. I bet the stripes on the ribs of the barrel were a pain to tape off! Did you get the flapper replated or did it just clean up that nice? up

I just used fine line tape that I already had. I sanded the powdercoat off the flapper and decided to just polish it. It's just steel so I'm not sure how long it will stay that way. After buffing I used a polish that says it leaves a film behind that is supposed to protect the surface. Once it does start to rust, I think I'll paint it a navy blue color...same as the GULF letters on the decal.
