Does anyone have a source for vendors that do alternator repair, restoration or one-wire conversions?

Jim Ridge@Dixie Restoration does restorations, but be forewarned, there is a waiting list and it can be pricey. The work though is extremely nice.
This guy is very good too. He's cheaper as well and a much faster turn around. His work is very nice, but I wouldn't call it as dead nuts on as Dixie. stellar11@earthlink.net

Except if requiring rewinding rotor or stator (if don’t want to replace), the alt rebuilding job can be made at home just getting the replacements parts. They are all pretty much available… even rotors and stators.
Even the case refinishing job… with a soft acid dipping.

Unfortunately all they did was remind me why I hated chemistry. I was hoping for a link to a brand as restoring the finish on aluminum is something that occurs frequently.

one can try a mag wheel cleaner for NON coated wheels. it really depends on what you're are starting with. Lots of choices unfortunately. Could also ty reading reviews on AMZ ot googling "Mild etching solution for aluminum" mixing your own you can tailor it for the desired results starting weak (chemical wise) and ramping up as needed. Could also try a few sample runs with a GM alternator? just make sure it's not a sought after corvette or cashmaro one 🤣

I'm leery to go down the "try this" route because some of the alternators I'd like to refinish (is that the proper term?) are date coded. I'd really hate to end up with a pile of "oops, that didn't work" cases. I'm looking for "first time's a charm", if that even exists. GM alternators? That's an option if I had any. I've actively tried to divest myself of anything that doesn't have a Pentastar. Simplify, simplify, simplify.
