I been wearing NB running shoes since 1982 after breaking my talus bone (ankle) in my left foot (got spit off a road race motorcycle that seized at Bridgehampton Raceway LI) and had fears of not recovering properly without good footwear. I asked my doctor when I could get back to training and running and he said, "you'll be lucky to even walk correctly ever again let alone ever running". That put the fear into me and started to look for a running shoe with a real background in footwear and this is when I found out about New Balance. They had a long background in footwear with support and special designs for what I was looking for so I mail ordered shoe after shoe from them and have purchased many shoes, running, walking and working ever
since 1982. I only purchased the
MADE IN USA 990 models from them. Funny side note on NB model names and pricing as I knew the model names were actually the MSRP of the shoe, Model 670's were $67.00 870's were $87.00 and so on back in the day and when I walked into a Foot Locker store at a local mall store, I asked if they had a pair of size 9.5 990's in stock to which the person I asked, asked another YOUNG sales person if he knew and this person said (again back in the early 90's) "NO because NO ONE would pay a hundred dollars for a pair of running shoes". Man was he in for a rude awakening in another ten or so years on the price of athletic shoes especially for what he would pay for a pair of Michael Jordan basketball shoes.
