So I haven't purchased any general purpose shoes ( sneaker type) in years and I feel like trying something different. I wore Reeboks for years but I'm interested in maybe something slip-on and easy to get in and out of but still good for general walking of a mile or two. I haven't tried anything else in forever. I've heard Skechers are comfortable and durable, but I don't know. Went by the shoe store today but couldn't force myself in. What works for you guys?

These, along with professional orthotics, make a huge difference for me:

Hope it works out for you.

I just hit either WalMart, or Big 5 Sporting Goods if there's a sale.
But I'm 5'11" and 160 lbs, and pretty easy on shoes.

Skechers are very comfortable, and tough.

I'm a New Balance guy...have had many pairs with good results over the years. With that said....my recent pair purchase was Asics and so far I'm happy with the fit and comfort of them as well......durability is to be discovered.

Skechers for years…many years. They now have a new ‘slip on’ that I’m trying. So far so good. Also have their laceless that I’ve been wearing forever.. Stable, and good for driving.

I buy hiking shoes thru REI, but they may have other types of footwear also. Their online comments and ratings section is a good way to figure out what is worth the money vs what is not.

Comfortable and durable don't often go together. Sketchers are super comfortable. Merrell shoes are super durable.

Nike Air Max, usually from one of the outlet stores.

I've worn Merrell Jungle Moc's for years. Durable and comfortable.

also a shoe related topic, what to do or use, for odor control ?
my feet sweat a lot, and daily showers and clean socks do little to stop even new shoes from developing a funk after only a very short time. [less than two weeks]
the "odor eaters" inserts don't work, plus, they tend to bunch up, making the shoe uncomfortable to wear.
anything out there that works ?

A lot depends on th shape of your feet(mine are wide at the toes and very narrow at the heel). For yrs I wore Nike Free's. For me they were very comfortable. But now I find their foot box area too narrow. I pretty much were nothing but Under armour now. I can walk all day and no problems with my feet.

Ok

I bought a pair of ecco boots and after a year of comfort they still look good and are comfortable.
I then bought a pair of black ecco shoes for use in shop about a year ago. I'll keep getting them.
During the same time frame I've tossed away a couple pair of what used to "nice" shoes vasque for one. They seem to have totally cheeped out on quality. I'm done with sketchers after trying them a few times, seem to be comfortable at first, then the uppers totally fail in the support department.

I got a pair of the slip-ons too. Pretty comfortable and easy to put on. Waiting to see if they hold up.

I have Skecher boots that I like and are very comfortable, but they come unglued in various places. This seems to be the norm with other brands as well and it doesn't take long for this to start happening

I walk a bit myself, so I understand the comfort, durability and longevity things too.
I typically buy New Balance or Saucony brands, but wouldn't be afraid to try Sketchers. I bought Nike running shoes ONCE back when I was active duty. Never had shin splints in my life until I bought those. Never again!

The only athletic shoes I wear, other than my Vans when I do squats and deadlifts. I replace the OEM insole on the Nike's with SOLE brand insoles, which have been a game changer for me when it comes to plantar fasciitis. But the Nike Air Max shoes have been awesome themselves too. I beat on them pretty hard and typically get about 6 months out of them as workout shoes, and then another 6 months as my every day shoes, and then they become yard work shoes.

Skechers are something I wore a lot. Then I got cases of Plantars Fasciiitis. That was the end of Skechers for me - they offer no arch support. I have orthotics but they can be uncomfortable at the heels because they raise your foot in the shoes. So I tried Saucony’s and have stuck with them for about seven or eight years now. For “dressier” occasions I wear Blundstones - with orthotics. Gettin’ old sucks!
