I been wearing NB running shoes since 1982 after breaking my talus bone (ankle) in my left foot (got spit off a road race motorcycle that seized at Bridgehampton Raceway LI) and had fears of not recovering properly without good footwear. I asked my doctor when I could get back to training and running and he said, "you'll be lucky to even walk correctly ever again let alone ever running". That put the fear into me and started to look for a running shoe with a real background in footwear and this is when I found out about New Balance. They had a long background in footwear with support and special designs for what I was looking for so I mail ordered shoe after shoe from them and have purchased many shoes, running, walking and working ever since 1982. I only purchased the MADE IN USA 990 models from them. Funny side note on NB model names and pricing as I knew the model names were actually the MSRP of the shoe, Model 670's were $67.00 870's were $87.00 and so on back in the day and when I walked into a Foot Locker store at a local mall store, I asked if they had a pair of size 9.5 990's in stock to which the person I asked, asked another YOUNG sales person if he knew and this person said (again back in the early 90's) "NO because NO ONE would pay a hundred dollars for a pair of running shoes". Man was he in for a rude awakening in another ten or so years on the price of athletic shoes especially for what he would pay for a pair of Michael Jordan basketball shoes. wink grin

I used to buy a new pair athletic shoes every three weeks at Walmart for years. About 10 years ago
I switched to a NB shoe 928 which lasted now over 8 months, and over time seemed to also reduce some hip pain/discomfort I was having.
I'm glad I switched.

A brand not mentioned is Asics. They make decent shoes as well.

I like Skechers Slip Ins. No need to touch with your hands and no need for a shoehorn. They have laced and unlaced. Whatever brand make sure they have: 1 Good arch support. 2 Spacious- NOT TIGHT. 3 Good cushioning. Or you can send $60 on Superfeet brand insoles and place inside whatever shoe you like.

I like my NB brand shoes.

They are one of the only ones that still make an all leather gym shoe.

I cant stand those fiber mesh things everyone has gone to

i wear steel toe sneakers [current brand, reebok] because i have almost no feelings in my feet due to MS, and i'm constantly "kicking" things because of this.
and to the fellow that suggested soaking my feet in vinegar, i never thought of that. thanks ! up [wonder what soaking my head in vinegar would do ? laugh2]
