Bob seams like yor taking two steps back to go one forward, you already have the box trailer and the way things are you will have to take a big hit on that and you loose valuable garage space as my car is always in the box unless broke.I would look for a 98 or newer used truck 3/4 ton or larger and use it as my dailey driver thats what I did and your not buryed in a new truck just my

Dave I really think I can get enough out of my trailer to buy a used open trailer and have a little money left over for my pocket. And when the Roadrunner sells we'll have enough to look at a used truck, but it won't be enough to buy a good enough truck to pull 7-8000 pounds. That new Hemi Ram I had pulled nice but I wouldn't want to pull with any less of a truck. It stinks but I gotta downsize, I only race a few times a year and the box trailer is useless for 4 wheelin/dirt bikin, I need something I can use for everything. The trailer sits next to my garage and the car is always in my garage so storage is not an issue except for all the lawn furniture and crap we put in there in the winter, no big deal.
We could swing the fancy stuff if we really wanted to try, but we won't be racing much at all anymore, heck little league baseball is 5 or 6 days a week half the summer, then football starts.

I took a pay cut at work but got a job that makes me way more happy and healthy. We'll be fine, just gotta down size and get back to enjoying this crazy hobby.

The Grand State of Confusion-O...
I sold my enclosed trailer last fall(at a tidy profit ) and went back to an open trailer. I needed to be able to use it for the car and/or the Kubota or hauling mulch etc. and I just couldn't see having TWO trailers setting around that I have to buy license plates for. Besides that,I am in no rush to get the Daytona put back together just yet. The wife and I have other priorities we need to take care of first, and IF I get it running......

If I don't make racing easier and more affordable soon there will be no more racing for me. The lease ended on my Hemi Ram so it is gone, we don't want to lease again and don't want a big payment. My son and I haven't gone 4 wheelin/Dirt bikin forever because the 24' box trailer is a pain. The best thing for me right now to start having fun again is to go back to an open trailer and pick me up a slightly used 4x4 Dakota. I only camp at the track once or twice a year so a tent or cheap motel will be fine. The Dakota will be a more practical daily driver and we'll be able to go 4 wheelin more often with the open trailer.

Do they make a Hemi Dakota or do they still use the 4.7 with the horrible transmission?

the 4.7 is a horrible motor. lots of problems with cracks and timing chains according to a friend of mine who is a chrysler mechanic. atleast the 4.7 in the grand cherokees

Yea most 4.7 motors have an annoying ticking noise too that's very noticable. I'd much rather have the Hemi and better tranny but I gotta find something affordable soon.

If you have to put up with engine noise, you might as well get a Cummins.
The price has surely came way down on used ones.

Bob,
I have towed with an open trailer and 1/2 ton PU for 8+ years. The only drawback is when the weather is bad (hail) but if your car's insured np. Nothing beats the "thumbs up" from people going down the road.
