Just get a bike trailer for the Dart.........you already have a truck engine in it with mufflers. The racing budget is practically non-existant for a lot of us. Sometimes, you just do what you have to do. Good luck.

I think that is a good idea. Get back to basics. I sold my brand new open trailer, and went and got a decent used one. saves money, and i dont feel bad about it sitting so much. Good luck and hope you get to race!

Do they make a Hemi Dakota or do they still use the 4.7 with the horrible transmission?
I think that on the 2005 and newer Daks the 4.7 is the only v8 offered. Used prices on the pre-2005 quad/crew cabs with the 5.9 are getting more reasonable. They suck just as much gas as a full size truck with the 5.9.

I like those old Motorhomes and all their shag carpeted glory !!
It would be a nice place to bunk out after a rough day at the track

Thats what I usually do...I do have a open trailer that I have never (not even once) used. And I drive a 97 Ford F-150. I could honestly afford anything I want...but to me, it's a waste to spend big money on vehicles (except the Challenger..lol). I've never owned a new car in my life just because I can't imagine spending $35K on something that will be worth 1/2 in a few years. It just doesn't make sense to me.
My wife drives a 99 Tahoe...new enough for her. And I don't plan on replacing either for several years.
I think your plan is a good one...I always buy a 3-4 year old vehicle and then drive the snot out of it...

LOL. That's a little too far back to basics for me with a car like this, but still a great idea. Those were the fun days but my desire to go fast has taken that option out.
Thanks for the support guys, my in-laws just picked up a 2005 Durango with the tow package so if I don't get a truck soon I can use theirs and get an open trailer. Next summer I'll have my own complete setup. The awesome Mr. NotaCharger has also offered to tow my enclosed trailer to the track this year to start tuning the car.
My issue with the tranny behind the 4.7 motors is this, I had a 2002 quad cab 4x4 Ram and all it ever did was shift up and down always searching for gears, then the tranny broke twice pulling my 24' Haulmark but that truck wasn't suppose to pull 7000-8000 pounds so I can't blame the truck for that. The tranny in my 07 Hemi Ram never searched gears and just seemed like a really stout tranny.
My brother-in-law used to pull his open trailer with his Demon on it with a 3.9 V6 Dakota, but I don't want to get that crazy.
Either way I go I'm gonna get to the track with you guys at least once this year darnit!!

Bob, I don't recommend the Dak for towing, but that's exactly what I've been doing the last 10 years for all the reasons you mentioned. Make sure the trailer has good brakes, I wish I had 4-wheel brakes on mine. I've been as far as Gainesville with my '99 Dakota 5.2. It tows fine, but I have had a few hairy braking incidents. My car weighs 2700 and my trailer is 2100. I do not carry any spare stuff when I go to the races, I always sponge off of RBDuster at the track.
