If that's directed at me because I have previously ripped these POS conversions to shreds, I can assure you I have more experience with conversions of all types than almost anyone on Moparts. Mr. T probably has more, Rhino may have more, but there aren't many others.

they use a 4 door charger for this conversion. my question is do these cars have side curtain air bags? if it does it's against the law for a dealership to sell this with deleted safety equipment. even if it's disclosed it's still against the law. i have had this conversation with the sales manager, owner and a lawyer on this subject. they wanted me to build a few UTE conversions for them to sell. after research the lawyer advised against selling them.
as far as how they are. i guess the end result depends on the skills of the builder. i like mine. i have logged about 10,000 miles with mine. i have driven 500 miles hauling 2 Honda V65 sabres. 1200lbs if you are interested. i didn't have any problems with it other than it was vastly overloaded and slow. i have read someone in the past raced dragweek with a 800+ hp hellcat conversion without problems.
some day i will have to get off my lazy but and paint it. been driving it in primer for 3 years now.
also a FYI. smyth utes will no longer sell kits to individuals after the first of the year. you have to be a pro builder to buy one. you will have had to but multiple kits in the past or multiple kit purchases at the same time are required to buy one. my guess is he got tired of all of the unskilled idiots buying and calling him on build support.

My post had nothing to do with the quality (or lack there of) of their kits. Nothing more. Calm down.

yes a lot of uninformed keyboard warriors will rip on the price. from what i understand low $20's are what these finished V8 conversions sell for.

Thanks for chiming in and sharing your experience Mr T2U. I've loosely followed Jared's build of his 'hellcamino'.

Some (if not most ?) conversion shops have given that sector a black eye; but that can be said about a lot of things, from attorneys all the way through the alphabet, right ? In any case, they very rarely make sense to me or appeal to me. $25K will get you a decent ElCamino or Ranchero, or 1/2 pickup, and those don't seem to depreciate or draw the concerns that conversions do. Mopar never played in that market (except Rampage, which isn't equivalent), unfortunately.

Mr. T probably has more, Rhino may have more, but there aren't many others. My buddy and I did one a while back on his Jetta. He was just in an accident and go crunched from both sides. The bottom of the bed (corrugated floor, part of the kit) started coming through the back of the cab. If he would have been hit any harder it could have been really bad..... Mark also stole this pic ( https://www.smythkitcars.com/what-s-in-the-kit-) of the parts layout from my buddy (my garage).

he must have put the kit together wrong. if done properly this kit is extremely rigid. there are 2 floor braces that should have been bonded and riveted to the floor .and 1 that attaches to the wheel house. i used 3 rivets on each side of the brackets, 1 on each side of the brace and there are braces on each side of the floor brace. for a total of 12 rivets on 4 brackets on each brace. the middle brace is bolted to the brackets the rear and front brace gets bonded and bolted to the side panels. here is also a large, about 12" wide panel that should have been bolted and bonded to both the sides of the panels and the panel that goes on the front of the cab. there are about 8 bolts on this brace and i added about 20 rivets to this brace besides the bolts. the panel that makes up the back of the cab should also be bonded and riveted to the floor brace. this brace is welded to the floor panel at the factory think i used about 10 rivets to attach this panel to the floor brace. there are 3 panels that make up the floor that you say started to go thru the front panel. these panels should have been bolted to the 5 floor braces. i used 3 bolts on each panel on each brace. for a total of 15 1/4" bolts on each panel. fif done properly for a panel to go thru the panel on the front of the box. either 15 1/4" bolts would have had to been sheared off or pulled out the threads you should have tapped into each brace. there are 3 panels so you should have had 45 bolts in the floor panels that sheared off. or you would have had to have 8 brackets of about 2" X 3" that are bonded and riveted to the floor pull out AND have 2 1/$" bolts on to braces shear off while bonded to the side panels.
if i remember correctly. when i put my kit together i used 15 tubes of bond on the entire job. i used 10 tubes of panel bond on the sides and braces. i used 5 tubes of Fusor SMC bond on the fiberglass panels. i also bought an additional 300 rivets on top of what was provided with the kit so i probably used about 500 rivets on the alloy panels. basically a rivet every 2" on every panel joint around the entire job. when i bonded the side panels to the rear window panel. i also added a piece of metal that i bonded to each side of the joint. this prevents this joint from cracking when these panels flex. when this happens the rivets won't pull thru the fiberglass. they have to pull thru the metal. this also prevents cracking when the body flexes and the bonded joint won't flex so it will just pull the layers of fiberglass matt apart. my first assumption is he probably didn't bond the brackets for the braces, he probably just riveted then to the floor.. he also he didn't use enough rivets. he probably also just bolted the braces to the sides without bonding them also. he also probably didn't use enough bolts for the floor panels to the braces.
like i posted before i hauled 1200lbs from Lexington Kentucky to New Berlin Wi, about 475 miles, without any problems.it was pretty much driving the expressway speeds, 75-80mph, the entire trip. the joint between the rear window panel and the side panels, a common cracking area, DIDN'T crack. just a FYI. there kits the suggested max haul rating is about 700lbs.

Well, there's always the El Savoychero! I just love trotting out pictures of this thing I like flower cars. I look at every conversion I come across regardless of make. Dunno why. I rarely see one done well. I also look at every Grand National/ T-Type at shows.
