So you made me look. These are all 67 moldings from various coronets - 2 door HT, 2 door sedan and 4 door sedans. You can see the 2 different style moldings - convex and half round. Both my 67 Coronet 500 have/had the half round.

But the mounting is a tad different. The 2 door hardtop have the holes countersunk. The rest are not countersunk. And looking how the molding is made, I have to retract my other statement - you may very well be able to use low profile screws and not interfere with the panel. That is probably a good solution, and may very well be how the others are mounted. It was almost 40 years ago since I last dealt with this issue so my memory is a little fuzzy and my skills were much less than now.

I thank you very much for the help, much appreciated up

I'm not to much worried about the profile being 100% resto correct. Just want to get my panels installed. My plan is to just run a top chrome as it is needed to mount the top of the panel.

I guess I can get either style now.

I still would love to see how the clip style was attached.

I found a reference on google that the 66 style with the holes was crimped to the panel so the holes just took the door panel clips. Something in the back of my mind from when I had my 66 is telling me that is correct. Also said that they changed to screws sometime in 66. That I don't know.

Makes more sense now..these panels (1967) have no provisions for clips at the top.

Finally got up to the shop and looked at another '67 Belvedere II.

Picture #1: Molding removed, the doors do have a horizontal slot that is countersunk.
Picture #2: Molding installed.
Picture #3: The stock screw holes are countersunk..
Picture #4: The molding has a ~1/8"-5/32" ledge between the door card slot and the molding attachment surface

Bottom line, both the door and moldings are countersunk at the screw locations. But I still maintain that with the "ledge", one could drill new holes for the screws, cone the door holes and get an acceptable job. If it was my car and I was going together for the last time, I'd even consider pop-riveting the moldings. But each to their own. shruggy
