Looks like something from The Simpsons or a 3rd grader.

^^^ Yup - reminds me of the safety vehicle designs in the '70s: so fugly you wouldn't have one if it was free.
It has that "designed by Gov't committee" look.

Got the SWAT-styler rammer up front, and - assuming it's RHD - sliding door blocks driver's side view.
But I guess that makes the open door reeeaallly obvious...

It looks super dumb but I bet it is nicer to work out of.

I randomly came across a YouTube video from an amazon delivery driver. He went over why he likes the Electric Rivian delivery vehicles so much vs the standard vans. Same story, looks dumb, works great.

There is an article in the Wall Street Journal today about them.

While they get comments like "they sure weren't designed for looks" The mail delivery folks love them. Better visibility, current safety features and most of all air conditioning.

They also like that they are taller, no stooping over for most, and hold larger packages better.

The Grummans they replaced where I think were called "long life vehicles", supposed to have a twenty-five year life that was about forty years ago so they did pretty well.

The price of stamps will go up another 10 cents just to cover the cost of replacing those huge windshields.

That's ugly. Many of the newer vehicles are ugly. Most of the newer vans are not attractive. On the other hand, the taller roof lines make moving around inside of them much easier. So, I'd guess this new mail truck will be better for the drivers.

Does this new mail truck / van use a regular production vehicles frame or drive train?

AIR CONDITIONING???? That's going to have a negative impact on the environment as it's going to consume more power creating more greenhouse gasses to recharge them, and then the windshield height will create the need for more power yet 🔥🔥🔥🤣🤣

Ugly yes when looking at it for style but I guess if it was designed as a "form follows function" it mostly I guess hits some of those goals?? But how the heck does someone open the right driver's door with the right-side sliding door open?? That won't work for the local Amazon trucks and drivers as even in cooler weather they drive with the sliding OPEN!

And I wonder if you ride around most of the day with packages in a cold A/C vehicle and then stuff in into a hot metal (usually black) mailbox for a few hours if condensation will happen on the inside of a package?? Probably not but was that tested?

People want driving appliances and care less and less about style, unfortunately.

It's a commercial vehicle designed for a specific purpose. Who cares if it's ugly? Is it supposed to be stylish? panic

Wondering how effective the A/C is gonna be with the drivers window open most of the time and that huge solar oven in the back.

I used to design roofing girder systems for high schools, you tell me why any school shouldn't just be a 4 sided box instead of these monstrosities they make us pay for? mad

We have a friend that is a rural route carrier, and uses his own vehicle. Even with the windows open, when it's 95°+ outside, the AC still helps.

Remember the speeds most of these things travel at. A huge window isn't much drag at that point.

I guess it's kinda fun to critique them, but IMO, they look to be well designed for a mail carrier vehicle. I hope they're cheap too...

Around here most carriers are driving Mercedes Metris vans.
