A couple years ago, my Dad's 383 in his 1969 Super Bee started knocking. The car was parked for a year, and then I pulled the engine out of the car. The engine always had lower oil pressure than I liked at idle, but was fine under load. When I pulled the pan, everything LOOKED OK, but once disassembly was started, I found that #3 rod bearing was shot, along with #4 main. It had also egg shaped the end of the stock rod. This is the numbers matching block to my Dad's Bee, and when it was rebuilt 24 years ago, we had found a bent rod in it, and all the original piston skirts were broken. Not wanting to destroy the original block, it was best to upgrade rods, and while we are at it, I wanted to get rid of the old KB pistons. Since the crank needed work as well, it was also time to upgrade that.
This is a mild build. We reused the old cam, heads, and intake. Just looking for a good street cruiser, that runs on 91 octane gas.
Here is the break down.
383 block .045 over Molnar 3.91 crank Molnar Rods SpeedTec forged pistons 10.4:1 compressiom Edelbrock Performer RPM heads Edelbrock Perfromer RPM intake Old MP .484 cam Comp Cams roller rockers TTi 1 7/8" headers Holley 850 DP carb 8 quart oil pan with windage tray
Who wants to guess what it makes for power?

With you tuning - 495HP / 510 lb-ft on 91 pump.
Good luck!

Good luck! I'm no tuner... LOL! That's why we are bringing it to the dyno.

Plenty enough to be fun on the street. The car looks outstanding, just like everything else you work on!
I'll guess 490/520 just for fun even though I know next to nothing about dynos.
Regardless of the exact numbers achieved....anyone care to guess max power and max torque rpm?

You can do a lot better on that cam, they suck big time, Trust me You want to donate one? We had it. It was in the engine for 20+ years, and still has all the lobes. Budget was a concern. NOT looking for any killer numbers. Just want a nice driving street car.

Whatever it is I am sure he will be happy with a good solid engine to be able to enjoy the car.

I think edelbrocks flow about 250-255 @.400 lift so with 453 cubes and 10.4:1 you ought to make roughly 525 LB/Ft and 490 ish HP. The chamber of the Edelblocks isn't even as good as a 67 915 IMO, I wish they would update the design. I mean look at the Trick flow Edelbrock!!
If i remember right the Factory Rockers only lift about 1.35-ish:1 so with you using Adjustable rockers (1.6's would really help) it will help the 484 cam.
The 484 is a good cam but I really used to like the Ultradyne 231/239 @.050 hydraulic in a 10:1 340/383 or 440. Idled nice and made more power than the specs would make you think it could. I'll bet the TF style chamber alone would put you over 520
Seems like it should be quite a nice street motor.

Same thought process here, and good to know we're on the same page. (Actually hoping for more but trying to be realistic).

503 hp/510 tq. Looks like a solid guess. I’m going to be less specific………around 500/500.
