So - file the 2nd gear detent or not ?
A buddy convinced me it's a good idea, and filed on it, but I'm having 2nd thoughts.
I'm not altogether sure it's getting all of the 2nd position, but I just now found a pic Cudaman1969 posted a while back (thank you!), and will verify the new width of the N-1-2 slot.
Found the info (.610" being the width measurement he posted) after the deed was done.
Guess if it's too wide, we'll put a bit of weld on it.

I don't see this car running better than 12s, so it's not like there's big G-force at play...
I don't want to wrestle the column apart twice, it's misery !

Love that so much!!

The 2nd gear detent is filed on mine with a RMVB, have gone low 11’s so far and hoping for low 10’s eventually.

Without the detent filed you have to pull back some and it will be hard to consistently not to go from 1st to 3rd. With the detent ground you just push forward and down for 2nd which prevents accidentally grabbing 3rd, and pull back and down for 3rd.

I should probably mention that I'm hip to RVMB with a Cheetah, so I understand the operation.
Appreciate the input, just never worked in that plane before, if that makes sense.
Over-thinking again ! laugh2

Glad you got it done, the only thing I had a little problem with is the engine rocking or lifting up against the mount which in turn messed with linkage adjustment. I Later put a strap to hold engine from lifting. During race put in first (you can feel the trans notch) then slap down for second pull and down for third. What’s nice is your hand is right at the steering wheel for better control of car imo.

Oh, the car will get a torque strap - it's easy to do and just makes sense.
Ended up pulling the column out & going through it - PO had the coupler attached with luck & gravity.
Some weird deal with a big soft cap, not the usual seal & retainer; with the bowl off, I could pull the whole shaft clean out of the splines on the steering box.
