Sorry no sound clip but the 3.5" PYPES mufflers sounded nice tonite! I took the bullet mufflers off, I felt bad for the neighbors every time I started the car with those things. The Pypes mufflers look just like a Magnaflow on the inside and have a really nice sound, I can't belive how quiet they are on a 500" motor with no crossover pipe or tailpipes. I still need to buy some nice 12" turnouts to finish it off. The trans held 10 quarts total and the engine fired right up, I was gonna run it around the block til the Holley black pump shut off. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh2.gif) Hey, all I can do is laugh at this point. I charged the battery while I played ball with the kids and it worked fine after that. Do you think it was low voltage? Do they make a rebuild kit for the Holley black pump, got a part number?

I believe the bullets are only about $35 each, but they weren't much different than open headers on my car. Here's a link to the Pypes muffler, along with a description. It's a stainless muffler with stainless packing just like a Magnaflow, only the Pypes muffler is $75 and the Magnaflow is $110. You can see right through these Pypes mufflers just like a bullet but these things are 20 times quieter than the bullets, I'm anxious to go cruisin!

I had a fuel pump act up like that, one of the bushings was worn in an egg-shape.

Do they make them in 4"
3.5" is the largest Rob, you'd have to go to a Splitflow or Magnaflow etc. for a 4" muffler. Your 572 probably would like the 4" muffs.

Slightly to the left Mike. I just have about a foot of pipe, then the muffs, then I'm gonna add some 12" turnouts.

i was thinking of the rubber dogbone that slides on to pegs at the floor and muffler.

How do they sound when you rev it up? do they get louder? i hear the race pros are pretty darn quiet...I was considering violators for my smallblock since i like loud, but will probably end up with Xr-1's since they are more of the loud level im looking for
They sound nice revved up, obviously louder than idle but not obnoxious like the bullets were. I wanted XR-1's but they are mega expensive, they're suppose to be pretty darn quiet too. Those quiet big block dragsters usually have the XR-1's. When I saw that the PYPEs mufflers were stainless for $75 I jumped all over that.

Good to hear you're getting it ready to roll. When can we expect to see you on the track?
Soon I hope Mark. I still need to have my rear coilovers rebuilt or find a good deal on some. After that I'm ready to tune.

really? i was always told that the xr-1's are loud mufflers, especially for the street...would you say the pypes muffs you have are around the same sound level as the borlas? almost all I have heard say that borlas are obnoxious for street use, while those race pros sound dead quiet from every clip i have heard of them- the street muffs from pypes sound even louder than the race pros

Just to throw another option out there, I bought a set of Dynatechs(Splitflow) due to Als endoresment. He provided me a Vid with his The Turd Valiant and they sounded great...not too harsh. just right! I'm in the process of hookin them up now...

At the beginning of this thread someone asked how to quiet the mufflers down....you need to add a cross over pipe that will quiet it down.
On my old 69 Cuda FB I had a neighbor complaining about the noise and I added the cross over pipe and it also made the neighbor happier too.
