Do they make them in 4"

3.5" is the largest Rob, you'd have to go to a Splitflow or Magnaflow etc. for a 4" muffler. Your 572 probably would like the 4" muffs.

you can also get Dynomax Ultra Flo Welded Mufflers in 4 inch stainless steel, $84.69 each at summit

How do they sound when you rev it up? do they get louder? i hear the race pros are pretty darn quiet...I was considering violators for my smallblock since i like loud, but will probably end up with Xr-1's since they are more of the loud level im looking for

They sound nice revved up, obviously louder than idle but not obnoxious like the bullets were. I wanted XR-1's but they are mega expensive, they're suppose to be pretty darn quiet too. Those quiet big block dragsters usually have the XR-1's. When I saw that the PYPEs mufflers were stainless for $75 I jumped all over that.

really? i was always told that the xr-1's are loud mufflers, especially for the street...would you say the pypes muffs you have are around the same sound level as the borlas? almost all I have heard say that borlas are obnoxious for street use, while those race pros sound dead quiet from every clip i have heard of them- the street muffs from pypes sound even louder than the race pros

Mshred, I have searched and searched for videos or sound clips of cars with XR-1's and haven't come up with much. People on YelloBullet are always asking for sound clips also. The XR-1 has stainless packing like the Magnaflow and the PYPES Race Pro, plus it has 2 or 3 divider type sheet metal pieces in the muffler so I can't imagine them being loud. I've seen many many big block dragsters with XR-1's that were unbelievably quiet even with no piping, just the mufflers mounted real close to the headers.

Rick, I haven't driven it yet and this car don't have an X-pipe but it does sound similar to the Sport but maybe a touch louder. I really like it so far.

yes i agree with you there, there are zero soundclips for them anywhere...I didnt realize the magnaflow, pypes and borlas all had a similar design...what made you choose the pypes over the magnaflows then? also, lets just put the question this way- are your race pros louder than flowmaster say 40 series? or quieter?

Quieter than Flowmaster 40's no doubt.

I went with Pypes because of price, $75 compared to $110 for Magnaflow and $166+ for XR-1's.

i see...then maybe the violators are the muffs for me lol...get some sound clips up man! and i can definatly understand your reasoning for the pypes...pretty big price difference, especially compared to the borlas

Ok you twisted my arm, I just fired it up and gave it a couple quick little 5000 RPM revs, Youtube really botches the sound quality.

And here's a sound clip I did a month or so ago with the Bullet mufflers, you can tell that it has that almost open header type sound, I hated driving it in town.

Just to throw another option out there, I bought a set of Dynatechs(Splitflow) due to Als endoresment. He provided me a Vid with his The Turd Valiant and they sounded great...not too harsh. just right! I'm in the process of hookin them up now...

Yes, the splitflows are also great mufflers.

At the beginning of this thread someone asked
how to quiet the mufflers down....you need to
add a cross over pipe that will quiet it down.

On my old 69 Cuda FB I had a neighbor complaining
about the noise and I added the cross over pipe
and it also made the neighbor happier too.

Sounds good! I like the mean not loud sound of those style of mufflers. Videos never do justice to how loud and deep toned these style mufflers are. But you can clearly hear the pop is gone from the bullets, and just a menacing growl is left which is perfect. And they have basically no impact on HP which is the best of both worlds.

Comparing the sound on the youtube vids, I have to give a to the new muffs! None of that race-car "empty tin-can" sound, awesome!
