Looks like a Ferret 80 to me.

That's the reason I wondered if they were still around but owned by someone else. Maybe Msd.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

My 45 year old craftsman works fine with MSD ignition. It will give you a little shock if you get your body on a good ground though. LOL

The flaming River D cell battery powered stand alone timing light has worked on every car that I have tried on so far with any electronic ignition, MSD or whatever ignition was on those motors, on the dyno and in the carup scope

My two issues with Flaming River is they are not bright and didn’t last long.

Never had an issue with eother of my flaming river guns. Yes they are not the brightest for sure but work fine. We also have a backup dial back gun that reads the same as the flaming river one does.

Had my eye out for a new/mint Ferret 80 for awhile now to add to my collection. The advance/RPM style lights are common. The straight 80s, not so much. Reading this thread reminded me to go nose around.

Ferrets were made and sold for private labels back in the day (Mac, Cornwell and others) as well as under their own name. Some folks don't know what they have.

Scored this mint/new Ferret 80, labeled for Mac, looks to be unused, for the price of a couple of Happy Meals.

Everything in the driveway is coil-on-plug and no race cars running, so we will test it later.

They are out there...

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

So I got a multispark compatible light, and it matches my old light, which I didn't trust because after switching from the Chrysler electronic module to MSD, without touching the distributor, it was showing timing at 55°BTDC. I set it to 15°, and the old light shows the same. I guess the MSD has less delay from what it picks up from the distributor to when it sends the spark compared to the stock Chrysler module.

Ditto.

Mine's not a dial-back, though. I just use a timing tape.

I have two old Craftsman lights that are 25+ years old. One is a dial back and the other isn't...both work w/ my MSD ignitions.

I've burnt up a lot of the older early )1960 up to the mid 1990s) Craftsmen timing lights years ago, not recently though boogie
Maybe they finally figure out how to make them live with todays racing
ignitions work shruggy
I bought and have used the small D cell battery powered Flaming River timing lights also, mine may be getting dimmer or my eyesight is getting worse.
