He's an equally likable guy in person; very unassuming.
Hoping for a full recovery, of course - he's certainly deserving of that.
I don't know whether B-J is helping behind the scenes, but if Craig Jackson & etc did a charitable auction for him, I'd be glad to see it.
I would think the rehab for something that serious would be expensive.

Hard to belive that he isn’t on Social Security disability. If not should of applied as soon as he got the diagnosis.

He's done a little more than that. If you are an Mopar guy and have not heard of Steve you have been under a rock for the last 25 years.


A devoted student of the Detroit performance scene and the history of hot rodding, Steve got his "big break" in 1997 when hired by Hot Rod Magazine as Technical Editor. Steve worked on-staff in the Petersen Building on Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles from Tuesday, August 19, 1997 until Tuesday, January 20, 2004. He contributed to a total of 77 issues of Hot Rod (December 1997 through April 2004) and was a driving force in helping to re-emphasize the roots of hot rodding, nostalgia drag racing and focusing on inexpensive junkyard-sourced hot rod projects.

After leaving Hot Rod Magazine, Steve continued to contribute technical, historical and personality profile articles to Hot Rod, Car Craft, Mopar Muscle, High Performance Pontiac, Chevy High Performance, Elapsed Times and Hot Rod Deluxe magazines.

He also authored three books for CarTech Books starting in 2010, the first being "How To Build Altered Wheelbase Cars", followed by "Rusted Muscle: A Collection of Derelict Dream Machines" and finally "Steve Magnante's 1001 Muscle Car Facts".

Steve is also part of the live on-stage TV crew during the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction events on Fox Sports (formerly Speed TV) since 2005. In addition, Steve is a spokesperson for Dodge and the Dodge Scat Pack, helping to spread news of the latest hemi powered machines available from Dodge. Though Steve's "core" is Chrysler related, he is also a fan of vintage and late model Ford, GM vehicles as well as the many special vehicles produced by AMC, Studebaker, Packard and the rest of America's many auto makers.

Steve lives in North Brookfield, Massachusetts where he works on his fleet of three altered wheelbase cars when he isn't traveling on the road for Barrett-Jackson or Dodge.

I will say he has always appeared to be a decent guy and not the "look at me" type. And not unlike many hes had some unfortunate medical problems and I think we can all agree our medical system has a lot to be desired.

For some reason many have stepped up and that does say a lot. Remember when the younger guy crashed his A body and started a gfm to replace his race car and all the other frivolous causes people have raised money for?

So in this case the car community as a whole is helping out a guy who seems very deserving of the help. No one forced the donations. I mean look at the medical path hes been down as its no joke and hes lucky to be talking and moving and its far from over. So maybe the $50 here or $100 there can give the guy a little bit of hope in his world thats been total crap for some time.

Isnt this what were supposed to do when we can? Help out deserving guys with a common interest?

I like Steve Magnante. An unassuming guy without the obvious ego of so many other TV hosts. He has tons of knowledge that he has a knack for sharing in an easily understandable way. I liked Junkyard Gold, and enjoyed reading him in the pages of Hot Rod all those years ago. Barret-Jackson is outta my pay-grade, so I didn't even know he was on that.

What makes me shake my head is that in the wealthiest democracy on the planet, a productive member of society still stands to lose everything in the event of serious illness...but I'll stop there because I know there are those who would send this thread down a political rabbit hole & spoil it further.

He should have basic healthcare (Obamacare) through his state. That should help put dents in those hospital bills. Hopefully he has family advocating for him.

I met him at Carlisle one year when he was doing Mopar trivia at the factory display. Nice guy.

And I still wonder if he contracted it from mosquito in a junk yard. I'm so glad he's recovering!

i never used any repellent of any kind, and the only "safety" measure my partner and i used semi-religiously, was bee spray, just so we didn't get stung. as most know, bees just LOVE to set up housekeeping in cars that sit still for any length of time.

A junkyard i used to visit years age had tons of them. It was in the middle of the woods and had bees nest's in a lot of the cars. If you stood still and just looked around you could see them making trips back and forth. Had to see where they are before opening a hood and get big surprise! It will test your skills running in a junk yard.

I like Steve but his gofundme made over a million dollars -its probably still running. No way he needed that much...
