I bought this 472 a few years back and have been trying to find out what year it was made. Curiously, it has no casting date(s) nor any stamping(s) but it does have that the larger reinforced lifter bosses, std hemi engine mount pads and the typical casting number. Any idea what year this beast was made? Thanks in advance...wb

Looks like an early non-siamese block. Post a picture of the front around the oil pump. That will narrow down the year of the block.

Zippy might be able to chime in on the stampings on the block ID pad or the numbers above the casting plants logo to give a date on the block.

Nothing like the later World block with the drilled and tapped area above the pump mount.

Yes, and the area is also not filled in so that makes the block pre 2006. I think the casting numbers above the Motor Casting logo and the stamping on the ID pad mean something. We just need some help decoding.

The 472 crate motor came out in 1998 and that block is before 2006 so we are closing in.

I bought a 426 crate motor in the middle of '05 and the front of the block has that boss to run the external line, I've always wondered if I could modify it to look like and original ?

I think it's solid so yes, I wish someone had a program to mill that out and make it look proper.

Zippy tried to get info on casting numbers and cast dates years ago and got nothing. So the best you can do is it's a MP water block

Anybody know the “power limit” for the water block?

I would guess a lot. They have a lot of meat in the mains.

That block looks like and reminds me of the first "Mopar Mega block street Hemi block" I built from Glendora Dodge while I was still in SO CA. back in the mid to late 1990s shruggy
The cast in funny looking M was on it also up

John Arruzza Hemi told me they're good to 1200. Here's the casting difference between the 2 blocks. Siamese has Mopar cast above the 2468330

As far as crate hemi's they are hit and miss. No way of knowing without checking them. Some people get lucky others are nightmares.

This is my water block. It's easy to see the extra meat in the lifter galley.

Love to help when possible, but I can't do anything with these that others here haven't already done.

Every inquiry I processed during my run there was first processed through an engineering authority who preferred zero documentation, and was then forwarded
to the embedded supplier/Cummins recon sales. The supplier would then process it through their secret decoder ring/contacts to come up with an answer.

Do you know who was casting blocks and heads during the Arrow and Cummins recon days , Pre World blocks ?

Motor Castings was the predecessor to Dalton. "MC inside a shield" is the foundry mark, shown on previous pics in this thread.

"DF" (with a backwards "F") is Dalton/so-called World era foundry mark.

I'm not sure the Callies blocks still have the Dalton marking, but since the foundry never changed between MP/World mgt and Callies mgt, and was Dalton all along......for the time being I am assuming the mark is most likely still there.
