68 GTX, has original numbers drive train and I have the build sheet. Body is toast, it came up from Alabama in 2011 and was stored outside on dirt under a lean to. All metal south of the firewall except for the roof would have to be replaced. My options are strip out what I can and scrap the body or sell as is. What do you think the as is sale price might be?

Thanks for any responses.

Figure what the drivetrain is worth / Or value of salvageable parts.

Thanks Bill, that's just it, I've never really sold anything parts/engine wise before so not really sure.

Paul,
a 4spd / dana drivetrain car would do pretty well. I've seen prices on Dana alone in the 2500-3000 range. Add another $1500 or more for 18 spline 4spds.

Good date 440s Ive seen anywhere from $500 to $2500 , depending on condition.

Throw in any good GTX specific trim interior, etc etc . I could see the complete car bring $4000- to $5000 for someone needing a lot of parts

I am so glad Im not trying to build a project car in this market. Parts have gone thru the stratosphere.

Still have the Roadrunner I assume?

Thanks for the info Bill and yes I do. Bodywork and paint on the RR was done back in 1997 and it needs a refresh so I'm going to concentrate on that.

Value selling complete will depend on condition of trim parts - interior & exterior - and much of that stuff is hard to find.
If that's all toast as well, then it's drivetrain & mechanical + scrap value if complete.
Selling complete saves you time & labor, and if it rolls, may be easier for a buyer to load up & go.
SWAG is $3500-$4500 asking, depending on condition; $2500 should work if you just want it gone.
As others have stated, 4-speed & Dana add a bunch if that's what you have.
A little effort at cleaning stuff up makes it more appealing.

Thank you, this car is plain Jane according to build sheet, 440-727 any 3.23 8.75. Seems like most of the original parts under the hood are still there like exhaust manifolds, radiator, master cylinder etc.

Sell/remove all parts worth $$, then scrap the body.
Selling it all with any paperwork/tags/plates could become a re-body down the road.

Potato, I should clarify, I bought the car from someone I know in 2018. The guy I bought it from got it from down south (I 'm pretty sure he said AL but I could be wrong) in 2011 and he had an Ohio title for the car, and I now have an OH title for the car as I went to my OH BMV to pay the sales tax and transfer ownership to me.

I hear you, I think I'm leaning towards stripping it myself and scrapping the body.

Would love to see how bad this car is. Personally I would just calculate the value of the parts and sell the car complete and let the new owner pull the parts. If the part brakes. it's worth less or nothing. I find people want little bolts and trim and takes alot of time to sell it in pieces.

People have been bringing back some really wasted cars, so not sure I’d give up on it just yet.

Yeah, looks like an ambitious project, but if it's a #s car, restoration would be a better fate than parting & scrapping.
I'm not saying financially wise, but hopefully someone has the passion for that.
Obviously it's hard to judge the full extent of the rust from here, but the car looks quite complete.

Thanks for all of the responses so far. Your right in that these pictures are not showing the whole story but let me summarize: both doors toast, both sides inner/outer rockers toast, floor pan toast, trunk pan toast, both rear quarters toast, both rear frame rails toast and that's just the major stuff. I bought the car because I love these 68-70 B bodies and its the original drive train with the build sheet and I'm not afraid to sink more money into it than its worth. One thing bothering me is lets say I have to replace 65% of the metal in the car do I have a real (original) car left? What if there are places where a VIN might be stamped and now that metal has been replaced? I definitely don't want to create a "fake" real car if you know what I mean.

Save it. No matter what. If you can't take on the project that's ok, somebody else (hopefully) will. Once it's out of your hands all your conflicted feelings will be gone. If you chop it up, it will haunt you. Sell it to someone else.

Based on the feedback I'm getting here I'm definitely not going to scrap the car. I've had a few members reach out to me about buying so my options now are keep it or sell it but since I want to concentrate on my Road Runner I'm leaning towards selling it. By the way Nigel I love that Spinal Tap pic!

They really do haunt you when you scrap them.
I scraped a 74 Challenger Rallye 360/727 that was very complete but rusty.
I thought it was gone, but I kick myself now.
And now that my kids are older and into these cars, they kick me too!

I can see what you are talking about. The slight gaps in the body panels, the wavy Sheetmetal from the doors back, rear structure looks almost like the shock are worn, but the body looks to be bowing in the pics? I will say at best, it is a donor to be a race car. Sell the roller to someone that plans to put a back half clip in it. Would be good to see how bad the rails are. you can post 4 pics per post, just have to do a new reply to do it.

My opinion is, if you don't have the money/time/inclination to take on the restoration yourself, I would sell it
as a complete car, so someone else can hopefully bring it back, to it's former glory. twocents

I agree, too complete to kill it, needs to be built and saved. I would fix the structural (frame rails) and drive it as is while collecting parts, would be a fun driver that you don’t have to worry about getting paint chips on.
