I don't have w9s but as p-body said the w9 are lighter but w8s are better from what I've heard.i have a ryanj built 428 lemans w8s,276/280 720 bullet roller, cast intake, pro systems dominator compression around 14.1 and made 715 on the old dyno u used that's unrated 10-12 percent. he used 1 7/8 headers but I'm using 2-2 1/8 headers

Jim,
There is nothing wrong with a 15 degree head..Tell you the truth..if I was to do a new head it would be a 13 degree..The 15 and up motors like rpm..when we changed to the 10 degree..the rpm came down..which is easier on the motor.but this is also with over 400 inches..but the 9400 rpm thru the traps is fun. A 360 cube with a 10 degree is another story..

What kind of rpm did the motor like on the dyno?..my 16 degree would go around 8900 before it would fall off?

It peaked at 8100 and 8200, we only pulled it to 8500, where it was down only 5hp.

This was with a 2, 2.125, 2.250 step header 24in primaries and a Burns merge collector. 2in Wilson spacer and C-25.

Should run pretty strong..the car you are putting it in is pretty light.. correct?

I should of used those headers to dyno mine..

We're thinking 2900 with driver.

I wish I knew you needed them. Would have shipped them to ya in a heartbeat.

I'm thinking you're peaks would go up with the correct header and whatever fine tuning you're doing to the manifold and spacer. That puppy will make 1000+ with a little fine tuning.

I never dynoed mine but it was a 4.185 bore with a 4.00 stroke standard port w-9 in a 3,120# 72 dart with 29.5x10.5 slicks and went a 9.13 @ 147 they were cnc ported by chapman and shifted the car at 7,500.

I can't believe no one had bought jimi w7 motor. if someone wants to go high 8s there's a motor for you. I wonder how much power would that motor make with a good set of w8s?

Jim..We fine tuned it..heck I had my carb guy there with me..the biggest problem was the headers and the cam lift..it's only in the 800 range..and still almost made 1000hp..

When we check it out next year..we will make some small changes

The intake and spacer mods wont hurt...

Jimi, very nice power. Bdaz smblk, have you race the dart at MIR? If so are you still running two dominators? what's the spec on the engine if you don't mind telling us?

Yes I was at MIR having major problems with two prosystems dominators but prc carbs has fixed that problem. It's a 440" cfe w-8 with two dominators flat top je pistons with a 800 lift roller .It is a 9" deck block with 4.185 bore 4.000 stroke 6" rods.

The average guy isn't going to pay the $$$ for a set of CFE W8's, pure and simple. I had some 13 degree CFE W8's and Sheet metal Intake for sale at well under what they cost and they're still sitting here.
A top end that makes that kind of power is going to set you back around 10K give or take.
AL....

Wow, where did you put the ring pack in that motor? C/H must have been nothing. I had to go 5.9" long rod with my 3.79 stroke 9" deck motor.

Congrats on stuffing that much arm into such a short deck motor.

If I had it to do all over I would use a tall deck block. It seems to make good power I just need everything to be right to get it to run like it should.I've been a 5.70 flat at 123 in the 1/8 and only a 9.03 at 150 so far but only has 3 test passes sense Steve Taylor at prc carbs got my carbs working good.Good luck with yours.Kenny
