What is the proper way to re install the harmonic balancer ??? Pull into back on the crank

I used a steering wheel puller to take it off , worked slick

a damper installation tool threads into the crank snout threads, then a nut and washer is used to pull the damper home. this keeps from pulling or messing up the crank threads out of the end of the crank. a tool for this can be bought or fabbed up if you have the means to do so.

Perfection !!!

Once I got the 45 year old timing chain cover all cleaned up , gasket off , bead blasted and paint removed , it was obvious

Passenger side locater pin hole on cover was bent out

That locater hole was protruded out like it grabbed the pin on block and didn't set proper or I had to pound it on many many years ago when I replaced a wiped out cam on a newly rebuilt motor from what I can remember.
Man that was a long time ago

Anyways over time , especially as of late , leak got progressively worse and kept following the profile of the passenger side oil pan gaskets making it look like it was leaking everywhere

Smoothed out the cover , made sure both locater pins where paint free , cleaned up the holes just slightly with a drill bit like mentioned THANX !

Greg At Superformance supplied all my gaskets and seals
Awesome Customer Service !!!

Installed the timing chain cover dry like he mentioned , gasket is a little thicker then your typical fel pro

Superformance oil pan gaskets

Not a drip - Gotta love a leak free motor after a few rides

Just disappointed in myself assuming it was the oil pan gaskets all this time - Yes I had to replace the rear main seal - I wanted to replace the beat up factory 402 oil pan anyways , but wasn't planning on pulling it three times - Was about to buy a reproduction timing chain cover , however the original one ended up looking brand new when all fixed and cleaned up

THANX GUYS !!!

Glad you found the culprit of your leak.
