I believe 73/74 was the change over to unleaded fuel. I suspect harden valve seats came along around mid 72, the manufacturers knew it was coming. The hardened valve seats are inserts, you should be able to see them in the heads.

Hardened seats from the factory were flame hardened. Not inserts.

Aftermarket used inserts to repair bad seats and to replace standard with hardened seats.

I read today those heads had seat cracking problems, might be time to get the 452 heads off junk pile.
