This. In 40 years, when gas is illegal, do you think people will want to make a coffee table out of it? Hoarding parts was probably a good thing to start doing 30 or 40 years ago, but now, just get it out there to someone who will use it. Stashing it is like those guys with cars they won't sell because "I'm going to fix it up someday".

I kind of agree. If people convert to alcohol and keep making hot rods, I think the younger generation will be loyal to the hot cars that are being built right now or using older bodies with more modern engines. Will someone build a 340 Mopar? Sure, but how many flatheads are being built up today? There is a market but it is small and will continue to shrink.

You probably didn’t know this, but I buy and collect vintage racing parts and certain related memorabilia. People have said the same thing to me for the last 30 years. When you could buy aluminum valve covers at swap meets for $15, now they sell for $200+ and those are not even hemi, finned or 4-bolt style. Water pump housings, intake manifolds, rear diffs, slot/hilbrand/magnesium wheels, speed gadgets, etc. I’ve collected so much that I can’t keep track. At one time, I had 40 tachometers and 20 Vintage MSD style boxes. Currently have zero for sale because people ‘had to have it’. Vintage parts I’ve sold included magnesium intakes for racing teams, salt lake, and a few ‘cheater’ parts that never existed. So for me, letting stuff sit for years is not a problem. After the show next week, I’m going to check out a stash of 1950’s-1960’s collection of blower motors and vintage intakes that have been sitting since the 1970’s.I have buyers for 1/3 of my stuff without advertising. Anything I post is ‘common’ parts and those go to the resto guys.

That’s a good read. But WHO is the buyer in 40 years from now. Someone 20 today +40 years will be 60 then. And I bet they will be hellcat freaks for life.

I know one guy that has a huge stash of flathead stuff and is buying. He is early 70’s now, his wife will have to sell the stuff.

Gasoline isn’t going anywhere, just wait and see.

my wife has always said she hopes she goes first so she doesn't have to deal with all the "stuff" in the garage ! laugh2
and lately, i have found more and more "stuff" i'll never use, so off it shall go.
i have uncovered some valve covers and dog dish caps that will be cleaned up and listed, as well as some powder coated cop wheels. i have also given a bunch of factory steel wheels to a buddy of mine to take to carlisle to give away.
i have contacted a member here about a "trade deal" [good for the both of us up] concerning a bunch of 727's and 440 and 400 engine cores i have, and when i can get to them and get them down off the rack, we will make a deal. a similar deal was made with him several years back, and we were both happy.
in the meantime, i have uncovered other items i knew were here, and they are getting sorted into the "toss/scrap" pile[s] or the "sell/give away" piles.
as my "shopping days are fastly running out", this stuff needs to go, and my concentration needs to be put onto getting my charger running again, and finishing up my panel truck.

I have no wife, so if I go before it's gone it can go to scrap. not gonna care since I'm gone.

Why do you say that? How many times have the greenies gotten their way when it comes to car related legislation? Pretty much every time.

So rather than pass this stuff on to people who might be able to use it now, you're OK with hoarding it until you're gone, then it goes to scrap?

Update for everyone. Someone had decided to buy the X block. Once the deal is done, I’ll post what it sold for. FYI, it’s selling for what was posted here.

Correct. Though I might now have to crate it, I am getting enough to make it a doable deal.

Thats good money for a used entry level race block. Good for both sides of the deal it seems in these times.

It’s official, the block has sold for $4k. I really didn’t want to crate it, but doing so was about $1500 more than local buyer would offer. After talking with a few race guys I know, they said I could have asked $6k-$7k and got it since it’s a nos block. I did confirm it’s never been run by checking all the bolt holes on the block and confirming nothing has been bolted to it. Even the water jackets still have overspray from when it was painted at the foundry. Heard the same guy has a HP 440 block ready to bore for a good price, so I’ll have to see if I can use it in my R/T. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
