I found out from a bud that fram oil filters no longer have back flow valves in thier new filters for mopars, it seems some jeep engines are failing due to this, he said that any filter that is upside down or lays flat will drain back , I dont use frams so I can not comment on this so I am just passing it along , I dident know there was such a valve in a filter, I have only seen bypass valves so anyone with more info please step in

most gear-heads left fram oil filters on the shelf YEARS ago. Whether or not they have an antidrainback valve is of little (actually zero) concern. There are MUCH better filter choices

I noticed today that my local Wally World is now selling Mopar oil filters. What is your opinion on the Mopar and Motarcraft filters compared to the Wix?

I just don't understand why some people are so difficult to convince. Wix (NAPA), Baldwin, Purolator, and the hard to find Hastings are all excellent. I may have left out a couple. Fram and AC and ANY rebox brand are third rate. Years ago our Wix rep went out and bought several brands of filters, including Fram and AC and cut them open. I was astounded at how "chincy" the AC's appeared inside.

I wouldn't use a Fram orange filter if you paid me.

I'd guess that anything Wallyworld sells ain't that great. How much is YOUR engine worth?

If you are at Wallyworld trying to save money on filters,(I can think of better ways to save money) the Motorcraft FL1A is a decent filter. Sure there are better choices for more money but I wouldn't be afraid to use an FL1A in a pinch.

On the other hand I think the Mopar brand filter is strictly a lowest bidder piece.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

The Motorcraft filter is a PurOlater, they make it for Motorcraft.

The AC filter that looks like crap is made by Champion labs, and they make most of the oil change station filters along with Lee,STP some Mopar and others.I don't think they make the Mopar filter that wally mart sells, but if it has a plastic tube inside,it's a champion Labs filter. The wally mart filters made a few years ago were real good filters.

Cut open a FRAM and you will never use another one

I used to work at wal mart years ago changin oil and we would get bored and cut open filter and NEVER saw any as crappy as the FRAM, the one way valve was a complete joke! It is a piece of cardboard and many times I took them off cars and you could shake them and pices of the filter both media and valve would just fall out.

Several auto manufactures have TSBs about after market filters saying not to use them, Hyundai is one. Cummins had them pay for a huge pile of motors a few years back that they screwed up, I saw the pile in Nashville at the cummins joint there.

When I worked at the Dodge, Hyundai and Honda dealers I saw cars come in with what sounded like sever piston slap after an oil change, replaced filters and no noise.

I never saw these problems from any other filters unless it was a rebadged FRAM (penzoil is the one I can think of now). Even the Wal-mart brand look like a Rolls compared to a Yugo.

JUST curious ... if the Fram filters are junk(I am not doubting your allegation) ... WHY didn't Cummins sue Fram over this?

And if regular-people are losing motors over this failure of product ...where are the class-action law suits ?

you guys must be looking into the cheap domestic filters. i've been using the HP6 for a few years now, everyone we've cut open & they look like works of art inside. strong construction, great filtration etc... but then it might be the assembly market you have in the US as the HP6's i'm using are made in Australia.

At work we use all wix oil filters, air filters, cabin filters and breathers. I always look on the the boxes, latley the boxes say made in USA take out the actual part it says made in korea, indonesia, china stamped right on the new part. They must be starting to buy cheaper and rebox like everyone else. Moroso switched their breather for crankcase evac system to china one's also, ordered one's from WIX they were exact part as Moroso had in their kit. Both said made in china. Not all of the filters have said this, need to keep a close eye on what we are paying for. Matt

Fram sold me a defective air filter and did nothing for me. Not even a replacement air filter. In return, I built them a web page...

http://www.framsucksmorethanair.com/

Friends don't let friends use Fram...

I have cut open a few oil filters and I cant see why anyone would even put there name on it. fram was the worst, why would a company let there name go down the toilet.
if you company is known for making air and oil filters, why make the cheapest piles of crap and sell them on such a large scale.
I saw a guy have two HP1's fail on his Hemi race motor.

I won't use those either, not because they may or may not be good, but because of how bad the REST of the line is. It may not be much of a "political statement" but I simply won't do business with companies that screw most of the people on the one end while selling one or two good products.
