They pissed me off today. The damn idiot hosts put a freaking TOYOTA engine into an otherwise nice looking 67 coronet... It ain't bad enough for them to stick an LS in damn near everything else they touch... So they gotta stoop even lower by sticking a Japanese engine in a true all American car? At a minimum they just devalued the car to a point "less than scrap value"
Why didn't they be pick a Chevy or Ford product to humiliate?
No, any time these car guys have to humiliate a brand it has to be. A Mopar... They don't show many on these shows to begin with but when they do feature a Mopar product they have to completely ruin it .. why are we Mopar guys the continual laughing stock of the hot rod world?
I'm sorry I wouldn't have a Toyota anything even if for free.

It sure seems like it, with as little aftermarket support as we get as compared to Ford gm and even the imports
And when we do it's "least as possible", and when we do get some TV coverage it's BS like this ..
Why couldn't they have picked a Chevelle for such a transplant? Oh God no, that could never be... Deface a Chevy like that oh no but not think twice of doing so to a Mopar product...

More Chevys get planted in Fords than anything else, by far. Started with the model T’s and A’s.

And that's plenty bad enough. As much as I hate that people have been "putting a Chevy engine in everything" for years now, this is worse. Japanese engine into classic American car .. maybe in Cuba with what I've heard happens to keep 60-70 year old cars running/
I have always been a fan of a saying that was on every GM air filter housing from the late 60s at least into the 80s, adapted for Mopar... Keep your gm car ALL GM, likewise KEEP YOUR MOPAR ALL MOPAR.
Not like there were "no Mopar engines available" or anything like that.... There's plenty of options for a different Mopar engine than stock, in that car.

Not a Chevelle, but an early Camaro.....almost 10 yrs ago. (sorry, for defiling this site ........)

Ok why wasn't that one done front and center on national TV? Ohh no, we can't show the desecration of a Camaro now can we? No we gotta make fun of, and humiliate a Mopar

I dunno about national TV, but this Camaro did make the rounds of magazines and national car shows back then. I saw it at the Auto Rama show when it came thru Houston back then. Not one person was standing around it (other than me) and it was positioned front and center where you couldn't miss it. I think it was more of an idea who's time hadn't come yet.

Get use to turbo 6 swaps. Mopar quietly just replaced the 5.7 and 6.4 hemis with turbo 6's

Most were too busy complaining about EV's to notice

They should change the name of that show to Car Fux! Right before that show the show All Girls Garage put a fake exhaust sound system into one of those fugly electric Mustangs! She said." it sounds like you are shifting the car but you are not"! Tune in next week when the girls on All Girls Garage will show you how to fake your orgasms!

Bryan Fuller is actually a decent fabricator, but the show isn't one I watch.
Most of those morning MT shows are goofy IMO, and basically just push products.
Finnegan must have fallen into the wrong crowd to even THINK about that engine swap...

I cannot stand watching All Girls Garage. These thirty-something year olds giggling like a couple of goofy teenagers, can't understand a lot of their "cute" (not) mumbling. I'm surprised they are not chewing bubble gum and texting too.

There was a Duster with a Toiletta moder in it at the MCACN show, just some young punk who hates "purists" and even had decals made to hand out to everyone... tsk

It gives the car attention/indoor storage and keeps it from rotting away somewhere, engines can be swapped out. I see those hideous low rider impalas in the same light, I am betting a large number of those from the 80's and 90's are now back to stock and would have been tossed away back then had they not not been given any care.

I have no problem with the fact they put a turbo'd inline 6 in that car. Though if it was me I'd have turbo'd a slant 6....
I have a problem that they put a TOYOTA engine in a DODGE.
I wouldn't have a Toyota in my driveway even if I got it for free.

Not sure if it's still around, but there used to be a really nice looking 69 Chevelle with a 426 Hemi in the area.

For that matter, now that you've jogged my memory, back in the early '90's saw a late '70's Camaro 'street machine' running around Poughkeepsie with a 440 in it. Even had a huge sticker on the rear window proclaiming '440'. Never saw it up close.

I don't know, I think at the end of the day it's called hot rodding. How would you feel if I put a Viper engine in this? There are plenty of Lexus V-8 swaps already but I would want to be different.
As for the "car fix" guys there's no such thing as bad publicity which is why there's this thread.

I think I saw that episode and the statement was made, IIRC, that the Toyota engine used was the "small block Chevy of Japan". I look at that like I look at Proposition 65, only causes cancer in California. If you aren't in California it doesn't really matter. grin

I've solved all those problems. I don't watch any car shows on TV.

What those idiots do doesn't bother me in the least.

I used to put Mopar power into everything I build here (including a 60s Chevy truck, a Pontiac, and a 62 Chevy II) but finding Mopar stuff other then the modern Hemi these days is getting to be a real challenge. Not everything has room for a Hemi, and not everything needs a Hemi. Good thing my building days are winding down.

Lou Santiago is a great guy, met him at Mopars at the Strip almost 20 years ago and we kept in touch. He quit a couple of TV shows because they wanted to move him and his family to New York and LA to tape them and he would not leave North Carolina for those "progressive" cities. I am sure he doesn't like doing some of this crap either, but still a knowledgeable and straight-up guy... twocents

People with no brand loyalty(mopar) will put X engine in any brand car just because they can and think nothing of it.

I think Lou left before this swap occurred.

Not real sure why some are upset about it though, it's not their car.

Doesn't matter if it is their car or not, wrong is just wrong! Like said above, it is all about brand loyalty, and people who own Japanese cars have never known brand loyalty, To me it is all about legacy American brands, but I still cannot stand Chivvy engines in other legacy brands, and most people are just not stupid enough to put a Ferd in anything else... laugh2

a neighbor kid gave me one that didn't run. i got it going, "chromed" the wheels with dollar store "chrome in a can", added a glasspack i had laying around because the thing needed a muffler, and painted it with a bunch of leftover "reds" the body shop had in a bunch of cans on the shelf.
got $750.00 for it. boogie biggrin

You don't get to decide what is wrong here.

Why yes, yes I do, just like you can write what you just did, opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one and in a free country we can damn sure say what the he11 we want too... wave

You apparently don't understand the difference between an opinion and a judgement.

Let me ask you this, what alternator is under the hood of your truck. Bet it's a POS Japanese one (an opinion) and that would make you a hypocrite, (a judgement).

I think Lou left before this swap occurred.

Not real sure why some are upset about it though, it's not their car.
I was thinking the same thing.

This is true, but I don't have to like it or agree with it and I don't!
