That’s quite a price jump. What about Edelbrock, same thing. Is Offy in Cali. If so there’s your answer.

I have never bought a NEW intake. What's out today is not going to compare to what things where like back in the hay day(depending on what you have). Lot of stuff is not being reproduced even if you wanted it. I have a collection of vintage intakes. Do some research and you probably will find a used intake for half the price of a new one. Cleaned/blasted you won't be able to tell the difference.

i bought an alcoa intake/head setup one time MANY years ago that had two - one barrel carbs and linkage. it was SUPER grubby, and the carbs were frozen up, plus, neither the guy that had it nor i, knew what it fit. i paid a whopping $7.50 for it, haggling with the guy for a while. brought it home, cleaned it up, got the carbs freed up, and hung it from the rafters in the garage. it has been there ever since. LOTS of years past, and finally, an article in Car Craft magazine reveled what this was ! it turns out this was a Rambler head/intake, using two stock Rambler carbs ! who would have thought ! i need to get a couple of cheapo chrome exhaust turndowns to use as stacks.

it was available around 1951 or 52, and it cost [if i remember the article right] $34.95 just for the head. a guy had to provide the second stock carb. i stuck some factory Mopar plugs in it, and used a chevy dirt car radiator cap adapter where the thermostat would have been. the radiator cap is a gen-u-wine western auto pressure relief cap i found in my "stuff" collection.

Well. two years ago I paid $388 for a new Thickstun dual carb intake for my flat head. Offy's version today is $459. though I would suggest the Thickstun is a better design. However, the Offy has theoption of being theoretically available. The Thickstun got made in batches and sold on Ebay till they were gone, then another batch would get made. Haven't seen a batch in sometime and with the way things are going now maybe never again. Thickstun Offfy

Its not fair to criticize Offenhauser because they developed most all their V8 stuff in the late 50s and earlier....but I will anyway. Their intake manifolds seem to be made to accomplish only multiple carburetors. No promoting direction of flow- just a big open plenum with provisions to mount 2 AFB carburetors (In the case of their dual quad intakes.) But again the true dual plane design didn't come about till later and even then Offy just kept going with their original stuff. Explains why everyone and their brother used Offy dual quad manifolds to make Roots blower manifolds.
Keep old mopars alive.
