Well the new cam didn't slow it down, but it didn't make it faster either lol. Still some tweaking to be done but I don't expect to find much more. I think it will want to rev higher so I might try a little more RPM on the shits.
At the hotel, had a nice 240ish mile drive.

It amazes me how many people show up to this event w/ last minute rushed builds. If there was ever an event NOT to wait until the last minute to prepare for, this is it IMO. People work on builds for years. You get to a point where you think you are close at registration time, so you pay your money and sign up. Next thing you know, life gets in the way, parts don’t fit, can’t get parts, etc… You’ve paid your money, and think this might be the only chance you can do this, and the next thing you know, you are installing parts in the tech line. It’s easy to say how it should be done, but until you sign up, and go for it, a person just doesn’t understand. I think it is due to the mandatory pre-registration. Having to commit to it months in advance instead of show up here on this date if you want to race. I just can't imagine making that big of a monetary commitment to something when I wasn't prepared for it at all. Guess that's better than promising to set the world on fire in drag week for years and hear nothing but crickets every time.

Saw your car on the feed for day 1, looked great.....Seems like only a few Mopar entries this year. At least all of ours are running on Mopower and not have it torn out to run an LS...

Those guys have not learned that a Hemi is not an LS......In the dyno vid, the guy said he had it big and fat.....Somebody touched somthing then....And you can melt the pistons, the head, and the block if its bad enough and you don't have any safety's set in the efi....That engine revs very quickly, and you have to have all your limiters set in somthing as mean as that....

I know all the deadlines, commitments, blah, blah, but after the 5th or 6th Hemi grenade, you'd think they would learn their lesson and be better prepared!
It really ticks me off when all the Chevy guys blame the Hemi for the failures they have when it had nothing to do with the Hemi design at all.

I don’t care how they word it there isn’t an excuse in the world how when these guys go to one or two events a year they can’t be ready for it. After a full race season and 8 days at the Halloween Classic I step away from my car for a week or two. Then it’s go time to get ready for spring. Going on year 48 and i approach it like year one.

The issue is that Finnegan, and lots of other drag weekers, DON'T drag race anything but drag week. He isn't out there every weekend getting the car dialed in. But have you seen all the stuff Finnegan posts on social media and MTOD in a year? He is not sitting on the couch waiting until a month before drag week to start getting ready. He is buried in dozens of different car adventures and projects, as well as boats, and all the life event stuff like raising kids, dealing with aging parents, keeping the wife happy, keeping up his place, and earning a living. Time flys when you are buried, and the best laid plans don't always get acted upon in a timely manner. And then it seems that everything takes longer than planned. Drag week goes MUCH better for a dedicated drag racer, who has his ducks in a row because he is out there many times per year. Kurt Johnson is a perfect example. He has won class at drag week more than anybody. But he LIVES drag racing. Not everybody does. In the video about the failure, he said that they topped off the fuel cell sunday night. He went up to make a pass, and the throttle was not returning. So he drove it back to the pits, fixed the issue, and then made a pass monday. Apparently he has a very small fuel cell for the E85, because it ran low at the big end of his pass. But he had assumed that since he filled it last night, and didn't make a pass, there was enough. Maybe he ran gasoline before and it it used less? Anyway, I feel bad for him. In hindsight, its always easy to dog pile on a guy for his mistakes, but we all mess up.

Not trying to dog-pile but come on now. I’m guessing he has to have a partner as a ride along. I have an 8 gallon fuel cell in my duster but my duster is topped off with fuel after ever lap. The exception being when hot lapped as again I’m by myself. It’s a simple an easy hard fast rule. And I’m an 1/8 mile racer. The throttle cable as I said before should have been fixed before leaving home and rules require a TWO spring return system.

I think part of the issue was he was gone filming when the motor was fired up in the car and dynoed, stuff like the throttle return spring should've been caught earlier. He has been pretty successful with the boats and his other cars, the mistakes on this one just seem to be more catastrophic than all of the other vehicles he has.
Sounds like they are going to try putting rings in the motor now and maybe make the last day of competition!

Yeah one and Done, the air wasn't going to get any better. I learned my lesson yesterday, probably wasted 2 hours to make a second run and it slowed down due to the air.
Todays drive was uneventful, so far this year they have run us on more Interstate than they normally do. With 4.10 gears I hate that! Today was a little better but still had 150 or more miles of 3300-3500 cruise and it was much hotter today.

I don't believe Kurt Johnson is here this year. Ed who used to ride with him has a car entered with his Son, not surprisingly its running 8.70s NA big block. Speaking of NA Jason Tabscott went 8.64 with his NA 427 small block today!

Kurt said he was going to retire from Drag Week, once he got 10 wins. He achieved that last year. Kurt was always on point with his program, and he’d gladly tell you how to do it. Those that listened, usually upped their game as well. Always liked listening to him. No BS type of person.
Jason will have earned this win, if he finishes. Yeah it’s not a Mopar, but that car is BAD.

Not Mopar, But Alex Taylor has a new video up chronicling her first two days of drag week this year. https://youtu.be/KPHS-p0opR8
