I've got my Charger race ready and got it weighed and I was curious where everyone else lands for weight? My car is all steel save for the hood and all real glass, low deck -1 head, single plane w/plate N2O, 727, ladder bar Dana 60 still stock frame rails, Willwoods on all 4 corners, tube k frame, stock dash, Kirkeys, 29/10.5 PBR Weld Aluma-stars. What's everyone's thought on weight ready to run without driver? I'll try and post a pic. And it posted up side down for some reason.

Nice-looking car ya got there.

I'm under the impression that they're kinda heavy, around 4000 lbs or so.
That's just what I've heard, never owned or weighed one of that generation.
Must be a couple guys here or at the FBBO site that can be more accurate.

The weight of the car without driver ended up being 3180 for anyone interested. So 3rd gen B bodies can be built to be fairly light if you put some work into it.

while awesome, i find it hard to believe that you can get a b body down to 3108, unless its gutted, and you started drilling the sheetmetal for lightening holes lol

Bring your scales and prove me wrong. Yes I have lightened the shell to get to that weight without turning it into the “gutted bracket car” look, while retaining a stock appearing interior. It has taken a lot of hard work to do and a lot of people can’t be bothered doing it.

Try this.
You were definitely getting after it on the weight reduction! Nice work!
Cool hot rod…..I had a '71 with a 383 many years ago. Just for reference, depending on 6-banger to BBs, 727 or 4-Spd, they ranged from 3362#'s to 3730#'s base curb weight.

I would almost say that is impossibly light for one of those without fiberglass everything. I did race one this weekend that was all lightened with my street car....He was not happy....

So what did you do to bring down the weight?
Do you know what it weighed before going on Weight Watchers?

Just make sure the photos are inverted, and not the car - it's way too nice to hurt.

3,181 is light for that generation, nice work !
I had no idea you'd actively lightened it, hence my original guess.
I recall the early Bs could get down to 2800 without going too crazy, and that every succeeding generation gained weight.

Pretty impressive weight. My 64 has a mega block making it heavier. But other than that it has moly cage, moly tube steering shaft and strut rods. Carbon fiber bumper brackets and hood (no hinges). Drive shaft, radiator, 5 gal cell are aluminum. Lexan (except the windshield) and no regulators. Light front seats, no heater, wipers, or back seat. Willwood's, Dana, Ladder bar , 727. All the rest of the sheet metal, floor pan, and frame rails are stock. With no fuel or driver it is 3100. What else did you trim?
Doug

I don't know what it weighed before I started on it, the car was a rolling shell when I got it. There is a lot of aluminum used in place of the factory steel, any necessary supporting bracket was made from aluminum. The tube K frame and Wilwoods save a lot. All hoses are light weight braded. 5 gallon fuel cell with 1 big pump for motor and spray. I made my whole wiring harness for the car, the only factory wiring is the tail light harness because its integral to the tail lights. The stock metal dash has been skinned and the dash pad is a repo abs plastic cap held on with velcro. Aftermarket steering column with a custom removable adapter for the stock Tuff wheel. All the carpet is Orzite aka speaker box carpet, Kirkey seats, PPP shifter. Behind the rear panels has had extra metal trimmed. The steel bumpers are supported by gutted brackets. A lot of little things, alloy fasteners in some places. I looked at everything and thought of how I could make it lighter, to an extent. Some parts that are not modified at all are the fenders, doors and trunk lid, those are very hard to get in good shape and I didn't want to modify them at all. I have the whole build on my Facebook.

Doug 64's are already lighter then mine is due to it being dimensionally a smaller car. Mine is done very similar to the way you have yours, ladder bar, Dana, 727, stock floor and rails. My cage is mild steel as well. For mine I found a lot of savings in the dash and in the inner structure of the car, all the inner bracing of the unibody has had some meat removed. I also believe most people think these cars are heavier stock then they actually are because the 73-74 b bodies are substantially heavier, there isn't much different between these cars and a 68-70 b or e body for that matter.

That's a good looking charger you don't see these cars at the drags much. My 72 440 powered charger weighs 3320 lbs , and has gone 10.57, 126.5 mph. It has full interior with stock seats,6 point chromoly roll bar. Things I've done to reduce weight: lithium battery up front ,gutted heater box , alum radiator ,fiberglass hood willwood brakes up front, 10 inch drums out back , carbon fiber driveshaft, billet specialties wheels and bunch of little thing removed that mostly go unnoticed.
