I can't take the wagon wheel look of my old steering wheel anymore. I'm looking to install a Tuff wheel instead, even if it won't be original. Has anyone done this on a 70 e-body? I recall reading that Barry Grant has a pretty good knock-off, but when I checked their offerings, I found about 500 different models to choose from -- none labeled Tuff wheel. Can anyone steer me to the right one? Didn't Goody put one on his Cuda?

How difficult was it to go from the wagon wheel to Grant tuff wheel on a standard steering column? After reading all the ads, I'm wondering about the horn assembly and wiring matching up. What did you have to do make it fit/work in your Challenger?
The PG Classic one looks interesting. Also found a very expensive model from Flaming River.

BE&A has a a leather repop Tuff Wheel for $175 and Grant is getting ready to release their new leather tuff wheel as well as their new wood tuff wheel that doesn't have the rivets. Looks a lot like the rim blow. No prices on the Grant wheels yet.

Chris, I had the repop Grant wheel in a former 73 charger. I didn't care for it, to fat and had a ridge around the perimeter that annoyed me . My challenger came with the OE woodgrain in it( still have it BTW ) Also didn't like the tank bus feel it had. My wife is only 5'2" tall and she didn't like driving the car looking between the wheel and dash pad. 2 best add on's I ever did was the tuff stuff and the 6 way seat. I went with an original TuffStuff and never looked back. It made the car so much easier to get in and out of, and felt much better to drive.

Can you tell me more about the TuffStuff wheel? Never heard of that. Is it an original or NOS piece?
The Flaming River repop claims to be the most correct version out there, although you pay dearly for it. It also appears you need additional horn and electrical items to make it work on a conversion from wagon wheel.

Mine was a near mint original I had several years before I ever bought the challenger. I bought it for my 71 Demon and never used it.
The upper adapter/coffee can was the same for the tuff stuff and the woodgrain wheel

So you're saying if I use a real Tuff Wheel, I can re-use my existing horn mechanism and cap from the wagon wheel? That's good info to know.
The expensive Flaming River piece is supposed to be a dead ringer for original in every way, but does not come with horn, adapter or cap. When I called them today to ask about that, I got some dough head on the phone who could not confirm what I would need to make it all work. If I can use my original stuff like you seem to be saying, then I am tempted to go with a new Flaming River piece vs. trying to find a good used or NOS piece at the same or higher price.

You will have to get another center cap. The one on your woodgrain wheel will not work. The horn switch is the same, but the adapter on top of it is slightly different. I can't remember if the hole is smaller or larger for the Tuff Wheel cap but it's very minimal.
I know there's a few new reproduction Tuff Wheels out there, some are good copies and some are not. I had my hands on one last year at the Mopar Nats that was dead-on perfect. It was at Dale's Cuda Shop booth. I have not personally witnesses any others.

In fact, I've been trying to get hold of Dale's Cuda Shop for the past two days via phone, e-mail and his ebay store, but so far I've been unable to reach a human. Anyone have a better phone number than the one on the website (voicemail)?

I bolted this GRANT one on in about three minutes. You use the factory horn button with no modifications.
DALES CUDA SHOP has the best price at about $89.

Thanks for all the replies. Today I spoke with Mike at BE&A, and Michelle at Dale's. Both were extremely helpful.  Ended up going with Dale's since it is more similar to original (rubber vs. leather), and it comes with the horn switch/adapter and center cap. I'll post some pics when I get it installed.

Just went to Dale's website and it lists 2 different Tuff Wheels for $179.55 each, not $89.
I too would like to put one in my 71 Charger to replace the stock wheel, which has three horn pads. What will I need to purchase in addition to the Tuff wheel to make a smooth install?
