I was out at Sonoma raceway last night doing a photo shoot for a client ('66 Mustang with a 700+hp LS7, full race suspension, crazy build..), when I saw a bunch of electric converted vehicles in the paddocks ... talked to the owner of this Tesla swapped Mopar for a while .. nice guy (and a member here, apparently), super nice build, very creative and well done. I appreciate the ingenuity and attention to detail.

When the market becomes flooded with old EVs, the swaps will become more popular.

Seems to me that putting batteries in a Plymouth in 2022 is a bit like putting a horse hide on a Model T in 1922.

I wouldn't take the car even if it were free. I have zero interest in this sort of thing. Silent speed does not appeal to me in the slightest. I like the sound, the smells, the vibrations and the heat of a gas burning engine. It does not matter to me how fast it is. Conversions like this completely eliminate the main reason that I'm interested in old cars. I agree 100% Sitting at the cruise in the other night listening to all the cool rides rumbling by going in and out.....I looked at some of the younger guys and said "in a few years you guys will be listening to all the EVs wisper in and out of here...how cool will that be?" NOT!

I like it and wish I had the skills to make one. Sure, I like the sounds and such of an engine, but there are too many +s for an electric: instant acceleration, "refuel" at home, no worrying about oil prices (even have a solar setup), no residual smells in the garage, no leaks on the concrete, no "hot garage" as it cools down, less maintenance and upkeep, no worry of gas going bad, and no cops on you for being too loud. Just get in, go and go fast if you want. I am looking forward to see what Dodge makes in 2024.

I agree about the sounds, smells, etc of a gasoline engined hot rod, but I can also appreciate the quality of workmanship on that car, and I'm sure it's crazy fast. I'd give it a look at a show, but no more so than a nice gas powered vehicle.

Looks very well done and I can respect that for sure, I am sure it is also a blast to drive.
One thing I don't get about EV swaps in old cars is the sound. Not the engine sound, all the other sounds. If you took the rumble of the engine away my car would be a rattle trap air leak POS lol. At 130MPH With a helmet on and the face shield down I can hear the wind over the exhaust. Get up to highway speed and turn your classic car off, I am not sure I could listen to that all the time.

Yeah that is a good point. I can hear my car rattling even over the exhaust so if I had a Tesla drivetrain in the car the only thing I could hear would be the windows rattling in the channels and the doors squeaking and the dash rattling, etc. Very true but then you'd make it a mission to make it rattle free and re-do all the weatherstripping. I dont see Tesla swaps like that car ever hitting critical mass, too much going on for the average person. However, you know there will be plug and play swaps coming eventually, some sort of hub motor or 3rd member motor, battery that fits under the rear seat or something.

quite a while back, [maybe last fall ?] there was a show on tv that was filmed in ireland [?] that was about electric conversions in somewhat vintage cars. it was pretty interesting, as it showed how they adapted the motors to the existing transmissions, and how they found space for all the batteries needed to power the conversion. it also had information on the controllers needed to make it all work. it was kind of interesting how different the conversions were, in the aspect of where the individual components were placed, depending on the vehicle being converted.

Conversion kits will flood the market and the tech will continue to accelerate, in smaller packages.

Nicely fabricated, probably well-engineered, probably fast... I understand the technical intrigue. But no soul whatsoever without internal combustion. I hear you. What happens when gas is too expensive to buy or unavailable?
