That's a really nice car... drool

Since the current owner is in Maryland, I hope to see it in person some day.

I was told by a stock eliminator racer many years ago that those air cleaner bases were worth a good ten hp atop an AVS, AFB, or TQ.

They are worth power for sure.

I was asking because the rule book says the factory baseplate and/or dusting must be used. That looks like something off an air grabber.

I though the A bodies used a round base.

Don’t know why so many people swap out the factory 70 340 side stripes. I like them better than the 71-72 type stripes.
Also like the 340 Duster decal below the Valiant Duster emblem, especially at night.

69 Dart GTS A4 Silver All steel, flat factory hood, 3360race weight
418 BPE factory replacement headed stroker, 565 lift solid cam, footbrake street/strip car
Best so far, 10.32 1/4
1.41 best 60 foot

Same guy that owns the Trippin' Fish 'Cuda ?
At 1st glance, I assumed it was being run as a '71, as the T-quad carbs had an advantage over the AVS, and I figured that's why the "newer" stripe.
My old car (avatar pic) was run that way.
Surprised to see an AVS as much as it running in D instead of a slightly lower class. I've fallen behind.
I think Jerry Hatch's Duster runs G, and carded a 9 a year or so ago.
East Coast guys still have those 340s runnin' very well !

Jerry Hatch ran D and E/SA.. I talked to him a few years ago at the Dutch Classic about the 9 second run and how impressive it was he was pretty humble and said it was a lot of work . I haven’t seen the car in a few years . Jerry Bennet runs a similar combo .. The west coast guys have some pretty fast small block stockers also. The Baker Duster is a nice car ! I like it !!! A local racer here by me runs D/SA with a 68 Camaro with a big block him and his son do pretty well with it he told more how much he dislikes running against the similarly classed Mopars because he can't run as fast as them... I love it !! his big block can't out run a small block Mopar.

^^^ Thanks for the correction - obviously I recalled incorrectly - big spread between D & G.

Good info since I’m almost finished with my 70 Duster Stocker. 70 with AVS or 71 with TQ. To run D with an AVS he has to be light, 3000 iirr. Now I got to find that BASE!

The guy that told me about it was running a 360 Volare, so I'd have to say there's no rule on air cleaner bases being of the stock variety.

I believe the rule is you must have some kind of base on it, not necessarily a correct stock one.

I find it interesting he was using that big one with a flat hood.

There's some pretty bad small blocks in the upper Midwest too.

Thank you, around 20 years ago I was talking to a guy who had a 71 Demon he raced. We were talking about the air cleaner-base. He said tech was all over him using a different year type and until he got the correct one for that year he would be disqualified (he was allowed to not run one too) Hence the correct one he had then. Things are more lenient now so maybe anything goes?

That is NOT a stock Mopar OEM air cleaner base plate.tsk

From what I hear, the old tech guys that knew something have retired or passed on to the great dragstrip in the sky. NHRA doesn't seem to want to tech the cars like they did in the past. Sportsman racing is a side show for them and the Nitro Monkeys are in center ring at the NHRA Circus. The guys on Classracer seem to think the people in Glendora are the clowns.
