I know. Beautiful car that '73 Duster (crashed in 1975 I believe) and what tragedy befell Irv at the 1974 AHRA Winternationals in his ex-Don Grotheer Ford Pinto. Had the starting line crew only been more attentive and noticed the photographer on top end who was trying to signal them from afar not to send to the next pair off because one of the cars that just made a pass deposited oil or water on the track.

Just found these three tonight. The woman standing next to the Sutton and Walls 1964 Plymouth Belvedere, is my mother, Patricia. Tom Walls and my mother were married back in those days and Tom was race partners with Gary Sutton. A few years after Tom and my mother had my little sister in 1964, they would divorce and Tom left the area and racing too. My mother would remain very good friends with Gary Sutton and his wife Barbara. Gary continued racing and would eventually team up with Dave Schmitz, together they raced a A/SA 1970 Plymouth Cuda and remained partners for many years. Gary eventually won the 1991 Winter Nationals in Pomona in the 70 Cuda, his biggest racing achievement I believe. I grew up seeing the Cuda in Gary's home garage when we would go and visit "Uncle Gary and Aunt Barbara" and on a few occasions would go watch him race at the Fremont Drag strip. I didn't know Dave Schmitz back then, but I've spoken to him in recent years. I last saw Gary at my father's funeral a few months after his big win at Pomona.

I was pretty close on the descriptions .. still really enjoying these photos.. and BigDads also , I've been racing for over 35 years and have seen a lot of Mopars and met a lot of great people and made some really good friends. I was just at Island Dragway 1st Nostalgia race of the year yesterday racing my D150 , there where a quite a few Mopars including some I have never seen before I should have taken some pictures. They have a few Nostalgia races during the year , I believe the next one is Sunday of July 4th weekend , you should try and come.

Memory a bit foggy but, I think Gary Sutton married or at very least dated my friends mother .. her name as Jan , this was right about that same time when he won that race

That is the ex Wally Booth Super Bee. Originally a 383 car, and had a HEMI installed. Car is currently being restored.
