Start it, drop it in neutral for a few seconds, drop it in gear and go. Easy.

Don't forget the little seal on the kickdown shaft. Those will leak too.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Understood...BUT I never had this issue with any mopar except this one. I've been driving almost every model since 1966. Plus it's a hard sell to a non mopar buyer . I plan to sell the R/T after this gets fixed. Good bye Hemi.

I chased this problem on my 74 318-904.

Before the rebuild the torque convertor never drained back.

After the first rebuild it started back flowing and eventually leaking from the seal.

On the second rebuild I replaced the valve body also.

Everything stock, nothing special. This summer I am going to add the no yoyo fix. I had not known about it til now.

Much ado about this, but the cure is either starting in Neutral or installing the redesigned manual valve.

Me thanks you have not had one of those valves stick open and lock the converter up by flooding it, have you shruggy
I have, one of the employees at Rossi Trans and Converter CO. told me about it, it is on the top of the valve body towards the front of the valve body, it is a check ball. The car that it was race in had a tranny failure the year before and the owners had not flushed the lines and cooler out whiney
I thought I had broken the Art Carr 8 inch race converter testing it before the 1974 Winternationals and ended up swapping it out twice, once to a stock 11 inch Street Hemi converter and the second time to a B7M O69J and both of them acted exactly the same whineyrealcrazy
I called Rossi and one of his employee who raced a Street Hemi 1970 Challenger in SS/DA told me about the fix wrench I did it, it worked boogie up

Flood the converter causing lockup? In normal operation the converter is full of fluid and pressurized with fluid constantly flowing through it (flooding). Fluid pressure and flow in the converter is the purview of the torque converter control valve which is a spool valve, not a check ball.

The only check ball that could remotely affect drain back is the high-pressure relief ball and it's spring loaded....not gonna "stick open".
