Was that the car he crashed match racing in Pro Stock back east years ago?
I don't remember seeing that car with his name on it or any other time: confused:

I believe that was the Duster they built for David Sox to run in Super stock in IHRA. We beat him in eliminations but I can't remember what round it was in.

Sox & Martin's SS-2 Duster was not a Pro Stocker if you are referring to it. SS stood for Super Stock. Not the regular Stock Eliminator but IHRA's heads-up version of it, a Jr. Pro Stock.. Ditto AHRA. And the number next to it designated it Super Stock 1, Super Stock 2 and Super Stock 3 (SS-1, SS-2 & SS-3) along with AHRA's similar GT-1, GT-2 and GT-3. They were all heads-up eliminators, i.e., no handicap start, same as Pro Stock.

SS-1 and GT-1 were for cars with big block engines (e.g., 427 cu.in.), SS-2 and GT-2 were for cars with medium displacement engines (e.g., 350 cu.in.) and SS-3 and GT-3 were for cars with small cubic inch, small block engines (e.g., 302 cu.in.).

If I remember correctly, the SS-1 and GT-1 cars were allowed multiple carburetion, the SS-2 and GT-2 car were limited to a single four barrel and the SS-3 and GT-3 cars were only allowed a two barrel carburetor.

What led to the the demise of these heads-up categories were a handful of cars (like Scott Shafiroff's Camaro below) that eventually dominated these eliminators. Same old drag racing story, man with the biggest bucks and/or best brains rules the class.

I would like to hear some more about this car...

I wish I had more to tell you. All I know is that it had a 340 engine, 4-speed trans, Dana 60 rear and Ronnie Sox drove it.

Speaking about 1964 Plymouth Belvederes, how many people know that Tritak & Morgan also ran a 1964 hardtop in addition to their more familiar 1963 Belvedere station wagon?

Ha, you could today pull into the staging lanes with Billy Stepp's Dart Sport and it would not look out of place one bit. Change the wheels and hood scoop and no one would be the wiser. That's how far ahead of their time Pro Stock cars and cars that were similarly constructed (e.g., gassers) were back then, only 49 years ago and how little things have changed since then in regards to how the average drag car looks like today. Think about it.

Now, go back in time less than ten years from 1973 to 1965. Drag cars were crude in comparison and if you pulled into the staging lanes in 1973 with an state of the art doorslammer drag car from 1965 it would definitively not fit in with the other cars in the staging lanes.

Allread & Glover's Super Stock/K, 4-speed, 400 cu. in., 1972 Plymouth Road Runner. Check out the Air Grabber hood. I thought the fresh air option was cancelled for 1972?
All the 1972 Road Runners I've ever seen had the non-Air Grabber hood.

Great Stuff!!
Air Grabber was still available in 72.
I had a TorRed 72 RR with the Air Grabber option.

As good a place as any for this- Yesterday we lost my good friend, and Hemi super stock standout, Allyn Lee. Al was 71. He and his late brother Dwight were officially the first holders of an eight-second SS/AH record.
